Aluminum Wheels

Folks, another option I'm considering ordering on our new Monty is the aluminum wheels. They look nice but I've heard they are very high maintenance requiring a lot of cleaning and waxing to keep that good looks.

I'd appreciate hearing opinions from you folks on these wheels.

Thanks...

Brad: We have the aluminum wheels and they don't require any more work that the regular wheels. I just use Sunlight dish soap (no lemon) and water on the rig and it shines like new.

Brad,

I'm with Bill and Ann. We also have the aluminum wheels and they don't require any more maintenance than the aluminum wheels on my car.

What are you going to order new?

I didn't get them, but only because I like the white steel rims better. I think they look nicer.I have no problems with alum. except the cost. I think it's personal preferance...if you like the look of alum...then go for it. you'll have no regrets.

I also have the Alum. wheels with no problem cleaning. My past Rigs had the painted (white) steel which tend to rust.

I have no problem with our aluminum wheels. No pitting or erosion. Easily cleaned with Simple Green and a soft mit/cloth. BTW, Simple Green is awsome for tires, fender wells, under carriage, and engine compartment too. I use it just about everywhere for cuting into grease and subborn dirt.

We have the aluminum wheels on ours. To me, they are easier to keep clean than the white steel wheels. I whish they had started with the new style a year sooner. I like the 2005 wheels better than the 2004's.

Thanks everyone for your input. Seems almost unanimous vote for the aluminum wheels.

George and Janet, we are trying to decide between the 3475 and the 3500. We've been in the 3475 but not the 3500 yet. Our dealer says now that he may get a 3500 in the first week of Jan. We'll order as soon as we have seen both. Right now we're leaning to the 3475.

You should check out the Toronto RV Show January 20 to 23, 2005. It's a big enough show that there should be both the 3475 and the 3500 there. And besides, it's free admission!

BTW, is your dealer located near the Burlington Skyway

George and Janet, we've gone to the Toronto RV show for the last few years. For whatever reason there are not many, if any, Montanas on display there. By then I will have seen both units at my dealer and yes he is Outdoor Travel at the base of the Burlington Skyway. He has both the 3475 and the "new" 3650 in stock. He hopes to have a 3500 in the first couple of weeks of Jan. We will order ours as soon as we the 3500 and make our decision between the two.

Chester, we got the alum. wheels on our 3280. We ordered them because we wanted to have the same kind of wheels on both the truck and 5er, looks great together. I'm under the impression the new Montanas have a different kind of wheel than we have. They changed the axles and wheels from what we have? When we toured the factory, they were putting the 8 lug wheels on due to the trouble they had with the old(mine) axles. Anyway, easy to clean and look great.

Ditto for the others. We have had aluminum on our two RV's and they have been no problem to maintain. In fact, was just out looking at the rig in winter storage and paused to look at the wheels. They looked really nice. Ours is the '05 3400RL. Unit looks sharp behind that bright red Silverado.

I had them on my 2003 2955RL.had to replace them over Thanksgiving after the two on the back cracked.I replaced them with chrome steel.
I talked to Keystone a few months back because the two on the back were thinner than the ones on the front. They refused to do anything about it,It only cost me $425.00 to replace them with chrome steel.

Was going to order aluminum wheels from Keystone, but after reading what PriceMl said, I don't know. Wheels cracking and being different thicknesses. Who else sells aluminum wheels for the Montanas?

I hope what happened to priceml was an isolated case. It sounds like all the others that have the aluminum wheels like them. I think I will order them on our new fiver.

We had aluminum wheels on our 02 with no problems. We ordered them for the 05 as well. The new trailers have Dexter axles, not sure whether that means the wheels are from a different supplier, but the new ones have eight studs rather than six.

John.

I liked my aluminum wheels.I just went with the chrome steel because I didn't want to spend the money on good american made wheels.I can get some nice aluminum wheels that will take the load for about $200 each.
The tag on my coach calls for 225/75R16D with 16X6 Rims.It came with 235/85R16E with 16X7 Rims 6 lug .That tells me the dealer changed them.

Not necessarily, priceml. The sticker on ours says 235/80R16E and it came with 235/80R16D. When I asked Keystone I was told this was a new size in LR D and it is rated sufficiently. I looked and they're right. I still think they should have put it correctly on the sticker. Sure hope I'm never in an accident where there's a tire-related liability issue or it will look like I went with lesser rated tires.
