Health Check up
I just wish to ask everyone here to please have your check up with your doctors. Two weeks ago after really feeling bad and getting very tired fast, I figured that I had a blockage problem in my arteries. I went to my doctor and scheduled a stress test to see what was going on. I had a stent put in about 5 or 6 years ago so I knew what blockage felt like. The stress test was positive and I went to the hospital Wednesday for an angio gram. It revealed that I had 3 block arteries, one about 97 per cent and two others about 90 percent. The doctor perform angio plasty and inserted two stents. For one artery, he is going to treat with medication. If meds don't work, he plans to stent it.
The doctor told me I was on the verge of a heart attack. I plan to make a major change in my eating habits from now on.
So my reason for this post is to remind all you folks to please see a doctor if you suspect you have a problem such as mine. I hesitated in posting because I am fairly new here and didn't won't folks to think I was insinuating that they didn't take care of themselves.
I feel great now that it's over.

Ray,
You don't need to backup from posting. I sense that a lot of folks on this sight care about others. Warnings are something our age group (at lease most of us) need because we are so vulnerable. Wake-up calls come and should come to most of us. We are just glad you caught things in time to make repairs.
Since I discovered that I am diabetic, I made some life style changes, especially around the dinner table. I had never paid attention to nutrition. I just ate whatever made my mouth happy. Well, now I eat to live rather than living to eat. I stopped letting my emotions about food rule over me. I stopped rebeling against my own body.

This is a wonderful post and so true we all have to take care of ourselves. This happened to Walt in 1997 he got where he could not stay awake, he was one to never go to the Doctor. I made him go get a check up and they found 4 blockages and when they went to put the stents in one of the artery's split and they had to do 4 bypasses, Well needless to say I thought that I would loose him, but Thank God I still have him with me. A year later they found out that he is also diabetic, so we had to make some major life changes. So PLEASE everyone take care.

Floridanomads: Thanks for your willingness to share with us. What you said is so important, especially for us men!! I just had a very good friend undergo a quadruple bypass, so this hits really close to home. Wishing you many more miles on the road!

Good post and a good reminder. Thankfully we have a family doctor that insists on an annual medical, ECG, Blood tests, Echo, Colonostomy, Paps, etc. etc. etc. Thank God for our Canadian Medical System.

Thanks for the reminder. Our health is of paramount importance, but we also have a tendency to procrastinate on going to a doctor. I went last year for a check up—42 at the time—and had to admit to myself that I am no longer a kid. I made some lifestyle changes and lost 40 pounds by October and swore off all soft drinks. I now drink about 90 percent water and feel better for it and the weight loss.
Just this last week, Marsha and I went to the funeral for a teacher with whom Marsha taught for almost ten years and whose daughter I taught. She was not much older than either of us, but she had a devastating stroke two months ago and had been on life support until Thursday as a week ago; she passed away on Tuesday.
Life is a tenuous treasure, so we do indeed need to care for ourselves and those around us.

Thanks, Ray and Judy, for an excellent post. We are pleased you caught this in time to keep it from becoming a life threatening, or worse, situation. Even though we fulltime, we maintain our relationship with our doctors from prior to fulltiming and have our annual physicals, blood tests, and whatever else the doctor requests. Thanks again.

Thanks for thinking of us here at the MOC, we all here are like family and it is good to see that we are concerned about things like this. We are glad to hear that you are doing well.

I am glad my post went over well and I hope it helps to prevent someone from going through my problem. I am still doing well and hope to return to fulltime honey doing and working in my garden and huge yard chores soon. Again thanks for everyone's comments.

Wordsmith, sorry to hear that. It does give one an enhanced sense of mortality.

May I use that?

Thanks for posting this! I am happy to hear you are feeling much better. There always seem to be different warnings and the way the body reacts, so it is good to know.

Thanks for the post. It is a good reminder that to keep doing what we love (fulltiming) will require good health. We too often put ourselves last on the list of things to maintain. Glad you are on the mend.
