Winterizing

Last fall when we winterized our 315 TT we did it like we have always done. This spring we found dropping from those little rodents! It is time to winterize again. I've made sure that the doors close tight, Last evening, after dark, I went it and turned on all the lights then slid under the trailer on my creeper and could not spot any light holes. What to I have to do to keep them littler ritters out of my trailer. We store our trailer in a 20x40 pole building. Any suggestions? Thanks

I don't know if you will ever get your rig sealed up enough to keep mice out. I place several Dcons in my pole barn. If you have any pets be sure to place the DCon in areas that just mice can reach.

I understand that placing Bounce Dryer sheets around the trailer, in drawers, under sink etc, will help. It has in mine.

I am curious, what does the Bounce Dryer Sheet do to keep the critters away. This is the first time I have heard of using it in that manner. It could also do for a somewhat pleasant smell.

All I heard was they didn't like the smell. I personally do, but it is strong, just out of the box. I have had only 1 mouse in the trailer in 2 years, and many many many more in the house. We have no cat, only 4 uncaring dogs. I always keep a trap set in the trailer with peanut butter, just in case and check it often.

By the way, we live on 10 acres of sage brush and there are LOTS of mice around.

The Bounce does seem to work-used it in the last unit. But don't leave it on fabric--the chemical in it will do just what it is supposed to do--migrate to the fabric! But it will do so in a very concentrated area instead of through a whole dryer full of clothes. Leaves a bit of a spot which you then have to remove. Don't know about leaving it on the lino floors as it might have an adverse chemical reaction--but in drawers and cabinets it is great.

I use a First Alert plug-in electronic pest repeller. It works for us but you must keep your rig connected to 120v AC during the winter to keep them powered up.

We got a five back at Costco. But heres a link http://www.firstalert.com/index.asp?pageid=35 to their page.

Hi all:

I had a mouse in a previous camper once. After living with the moth ball smell (ewwww), we tried bounce sheets scattered throughout the camper. They left a somewhat pleasant smell in the camper. The mouse took the Bounce Sheet and made a really nice nest out of it. I don't think the bounce sheets did anything for rodent control. I checked the camper regularly and I saw a mouse in there. I bought the camper home and threw our kitty in there. Apparently the mouse left in transit or while hooking up. The cat seemed to like the Bounty smell tho. It just looked around the unfamiliar surroundings and came back in the house to be fed. Whatever smell the bounce sheets left was erradicated by the Hylex smell during the spring cleanup.

Hmmmm..so I guess maybe it wasn't that the Bounce sheet worked but that the mice just didn't visit. BUT I do like the idea of letting the cats visit the unit just to leave the aura of kitty there. Those dang mice are sure a BIG problem. Wish we could try the First Alrt item--but we are in storage on a lot.
