Bed room slide opened during storage

Looking for a little advice. I have a 2011 3150RL that I purchased in December. I haven't been able to use it this year and put it in covered storage about 3 months ago. I took the battery out at that time. Went to check on it today and found the bedroom slide extended about a foot out. Planning on putting the battery back in tomorrow and closing the slide. Any idea why the slide would open on its own and what I should do about it? Now i'm worried about taking it on the road in about 2 weeks and having the slide open during transit. any help would be appreciated. thank you.

Is the slide hydraulic or is it cable driven?

all slides on this unit are hydraulic.

Might be any of the following:


Leaking cylinder seal

Fluid bypassing cylinder piston

Hose from pump is leaking Tighten fitting or replace hose

Air in system After checking all connections, cycle pump several times in and out

Loose mounting bolts

I had a leaking shut off valve which cause the slide to slowly move where it was stored. Pretty easy fix as one of the orings had failed.

thanks for the quick reply. Where was the shut-off value located? I'm assuming it is near the HYD fluid tank. joe,

My 2011 3750fl has a small plastic access door on the drivers side that has the factory switches for lowering the front landing gear and the rear stabilizers along with three on off valves for my hydraulic slides.

Thank you. Mine has that access door also, I'll check behind it for any leaks.

Had a similar incident 3 years ago, first time in 11 years of ownership. Taking 5'er out of storage and bedroom slide had extended about 4 inches. After hooking up the battery it retracted fine. Took it home cycled it a few times, a recommendation I got off this forum, and have not had the issue since. The first few trips after that I was constantly checking my mirrors for slide creep. Now it is just a faint memory. Hope you are as lucky.

My 2006 has the "drifting" bedroom slide out. I keep both batteries installed so I bring it in and life is good. On the road, I watch to see if it happens--so far NO. I have followed the recommendations given by other Monty Owners.

I had a slide creep out while driving. About 1 inch in 200 miles. Was on the way to the fall rally in goshen and since the trailer was new, Lippert took it in and just replaced the 2 biggest cylinders. They didn't even test them - they said most of the time it is the big ones. Had a little creep on the way home but dealer just ran it in and out about 10 times (got air out) and no problems in last 6 years.

We have a 2011 Montana Mountaineer 285RLD & we have had bedroom creep happen about 3 times in 9 years. It has always happened when sitting in storage for an extended period of time. It comes out about 8" & I hit the button & retract it, no problem. Since it happens so seldom, I cut a piece of 2 x 4 so it fit tight, laid it on top of the bedroom slide. That will stop the slide from coming out. Just don't forget to remove it before putting the room out. RSW

The same thing happens with mine, only during storage. When traveling everything is fine. Tech said probably bad seal.

Thanks for all the input and advice. I re-installed the batteries and pulled the slide in. It appears the HYD fluid is a little low (only about 3/4 full when all slides are in) so I've obtain some approved replacement fluid (based on a previous post). Haven't found any leaks. Will be taking a 200 mile trip in about two weeks and we'll see what happens. Plan to make a brace for the inside if it opens again during travel. Again, I really appreciate everyone's help. joe

Hope you had the landing jacks (or leveling jacks) retracked when you filled HYD fluid tank. Supposed to be retracted before adding fluid.

We had our bedroom slide do the same thing, even while driving down the road. Keystone have a name for it, "creep". It was caused by the cylinders leaking internally. They had problems with those cylinders. Lucky for us the unit was under warranty.
