Determine trade in value of used Montana
We are trying to find an mostly-accurate method of determining the trade in value of our 3811ms. We are considering trading it for a newer model.
I can't find any websites like NADA or Kelley Blue Book that will give a good estimate of a trade in value. Most of the websites simply redirect me to an RV dealer who wants to make a sale.
Any ideas? Help?
Please and thanks.

Check with outfits like Camping World, RV Trader etc. and see what others are trying to sell that year and model for. Once you know what others are trying to sell for you then need to find out the cost of the new unit you want. Dealers are going to try and decide which type of customer you are. Some want a great trade, others a great deal on the price of the new rig and they will adjust the deal to make you happy and get the most for themselves. If you want the best deal, you need to focus on the difference. The dealer with the lowest difference is really the low cost dealer.

Pretty much. Their job is to make you feel good about a deal while making as much money from you as possible.

You can google your model for sale and get lots of hits on same models for sale around the country. And the asking prices. And you will find those prices vary considerably. And of course the actual sell price will likely be lower than the asking price. But at least it can give a ballpark figure for numbers that are being bounced around. Otherwise I don’t know of any valid pricing site.

I talked to the salesman at CW where I bought mine about 18 months ago. It was 2.5 yrs old and I got it for 1/2 of Murphy’s. And now they will give only HALF of what I paid ! I don’t think so !

In any negotiation, the person with the least amount of time loses.
If you are in a hurry to get the newer model you will have to take less for the old one.

The more times you say no, no thanks, or that won’t work, the better your deal usually gets. Most important is to not get emotionally attached to the new one or they got ya!

We kept our 2008 a little to long. It seems to be upgrade every 2 years and trade in to stay in front is the only smart thing. We had been doing that but the 2008 has been so good we held on to it. Now we want to sell it and is very disappointing. NADA says 9k but worth more. Feature rich units seem not to matter on resale. Base price is all.
Starting to wonder if replacing all the decals made any sense!

Sounds like some RVers are treating their rig as an investment. Not a good idea! We still have our 2006 that has had lots of upgrades paid for and enjoyed by me and my wife. What ever I get when it finally goes will be OK with me. I cannot compare the cost of the enjoyment that we have experienced in 13 years--the value exceeds what ever the cost was!

actually it is a pretty simple process. figure out the trailer you want and start calling. You will fairly quickly know what is what. You actually are NOT looking at the 'trade in' value but what the 'difference' in cost will be.
Dealers just adjust the price of the sale to meet what you want for a trade in.

There is always this option:
RvPricing Service
I've not used them yet, but the comments seem to be very favorable. Since it's only $30, I plan on trying them when it comes time to sell ours.

Is that the trade in value? The NADA site shows my 2007 3075RL base price (no options added) LOW RETAIL - $11,750, AVERAGE RETAIL - $14,150. If these are the expected dealer sell prices, I would think a personal sale would be only a couple thousand less.
Mine is lightly used and in great shape, especially for a 12 yr old trailer, and will be a very good trailer for someone when we decide to sell.

9 -11k not much difference. We still love our 3000RK but our needs have changed. Need the DP Coach to haul the car and cannot pull the 5ver and a 24’ trailer. I may find a way to keep it on some vacation property or something. Rig looks new and still solid. It may yet serve us more if we cannot get at least 16-17K out of it.

What it is worth is what someone is willing to pay for it. Put it out there at the price you want and maybe that right person will come along.

When I bought my 2005 about 6 years ago I paid almost half of what the dealer wanted. I checked Nada Guides to see what they were worth. I am still enjoying it and it is in better shape now with upgrades than when I bought it!

Please bear in mind that most banks and finance companies are reluctant to loan on an Rv more than 10 years old. I do not know if this fit so in your scenario...
Good luck
