Has this happen to you with hot water?

Hi All,

Wife and I are out with the Montana. I went to go take a shower tonight and water was hot then when cold then hot the warm then hot then cold. All in about 2 to 3 minutes. We are plugged in to 50 amp. We have hot water in the kitchen. I can't figure it out. Please help!

If you have hot water in kitchen and this only happens in the shower I would be suspecting a problem with mixing valve with the hot and cold water in the shower. May be defective? May have to remove it and replace it.

Wife was using water in the Kitchen by chance? Depending on how Keystone plumbed yours, could be using water in the kitchen takes away from the show.

Sofia told me that she was not using any water at the time I was in the shower, But she took her shower this morning and it was doing the same thing. I went and turned on the water heater to LP and I will see what happen tonight.

Were you shutting the water off at the shower head to conserve during your shower?

No I didn't get to that point. I had just got in to the shower to wet myself up when it started to act up on me. But now I don't know what went on because I just got out of the shower and it was fine and I am off electrical power and on LP.

There are a lot of camper's here this weekend, Do you think it could have been the other trailers all using water at the same time. I can't see where that being the problem but what ever it was it's not there now. At lease tonight. Go figure. I have a funny feeling that my wife was doing something with the water and that was the problem. She just doesn't remember. Or, we have a ghost in the trailer.

Make sure your outdoor faucet knobs are turned off.

Charlie - do you have the on demand water heater? I think the on demand suburban water heater runs on battery and gas...does not depend on shore power.

Charlie
For the sake of peace and tranquility in a very confined living space I would stick with the ghost in the trailer!

Mine did that and found bad check valve in water heater outlet. Replaced and now back to normal. Shower uses more water than sink that may be why you don't experience it in kitchen.

Do you have a xt water heater with a mixing valve? If so mixing valve will act like that when going bad

If it is still happening ...
And esp if this was the first time out after dewinterizing...

Double check the positioning of the water heater bypass valves. Many have multiple valves, usually including one that allows the cold water to run in the hot water lines. If that valve is left in bypass mode but the heater in & out valve(s) are open then it is possible to get alternating temp water. It has to do with the heated water in the tank expanding and entering the line and with a faucet open that hot water moves along followed by cold from the open bypass valve.

At least that is the explanation I read some time back. I'm not sure how it keeps alternating but probably possible.
