Rally Bugs

Been home from "the" rally a couple of weeks now. Check on the HC every 3-4 days and find 2 or 3 of the light brown hard shell, flying, crawling bugs that we saw a lot of at the campground. Look like what we used to call "stink-bugs" or "potato bugs". Any of you veteran rallyers know what they are? Would not like a breeding colony in my HC.

They hitch a ride so everybody will be able to enjoy them as much as we do down here in the south.

Don't worry about them. They WILL find a way to get inside where they will be safe even in the coldest weather. Then you will be able to enjoy them next year. Seriously we had them it seams by the billions for the last several years. This year there is maybe 10% of what we had last year.

If you open the top vents at any time you are in stick bug territory, then there is a path at the top lip of the vents that leads into the attic of your unit. Then they can crawl around and you will notice them in the shower skylight and if your rig has the pancake lights...they can crawl down into those. So I would advise you seal any holes on the top of your vents to keep them out of there. They also will crawl up into the belly of the beast and come out of the vents in the inside stairs leading to the bedroom. Getting rid of them is to deprive them of any food source and they eventually die. John

Have had a couple show up so far while being back from the Fall Rally. Took care of them with a fly swatter and a paper towel and a pinch. OOOOOOO! Since the Monte sits in the "Montana Home" and is surrounded by four walls and a ceiling, it is relatively sealed in. I set off two insect bombs in the building to take care of any bugs in the building and hope it may take care of any other of the "stink bugs" that may hitched a ride with the Monte to the Great State of Nebraska. If I find more, I'll set off even more!

I've had to evict a half dozen or so of the stowaways since the rally. Hopefully the freezing temps over the last couple of mornings will take care of any remaining.

When I picked up my bumper crop in pa two years ago, they were flocking to my rv like crazy. Keep my ladder set up and ended up squishing over 100 when they landed on the sides of the rv. John

We used to have imported lady bugs by the thousands. They were attracted to the sunny side of out house in the fall. Haven't seen one in years and the Japanese Beatles are all gone. Last year I vacuumed stink bugs out of the shop by the hundreds. I had over 2 inches of them in my shop vac. This year I haven't even seen a hundred maybe fifty. We will miss them.
