Ceiling Fan
I have a 2004 Mountaineer which I bought new. The first time I used the ceiling fan it hummed so bad I could'nt stand it. The dealer replaced it but it did'nt help the replacement hummed the same as the original. The fan was a $135.00 option. The problem is with the fan motor. It is cheap and hums just like the ones you pay $29.00 for at the big chain stores. I decided to take matters into my own hands and purchased a quality fan that the seller guaranteed would not hum. I installed the new fan and was anxious to try it. I turned it on high speed and not a sound. The fan cost me $105.00. I am wondering if any one else has had this problem?

We had that problem, exactly, dealer replaced, the replacement was 4 times worse than the OEM one. We replaced with a fan from Lowe's while in Texas a couple of years ago, cost less than $50.00. Al had installed in about one hour, turned it on, blessed quiet!
Watch any lights you might have on the fan, they tend to wiggle loose. Al took plumbers tape and put on the fixture base, then put the light shade back on. Really holds them good! We used to use rubber bands, but found that they eventually fell apart. So far the plumbers tape has held up VERY nicely!

The fan made so much noise it was hard to clearly hear the TV and sleeping at night with it running downstairs was practically impossible, sounded like it had rocks for bearings. It was a very cheap and unwelcome addition to the Monty. I did not even attempt to have it replaced with another from the dealer because I felt like chances of a duplicate were more than I wanted to deal with. I purchased a Hunter at Lowe's for about $80 and now there is peace and quiet.

Ours is very quiet as well. No problems with the factory one. Wonder if it was something to do with the installation of the base unit to the ceiling. As all who have replaced with completely different units have experienced quiet operation once done. I bet the dealer just replaced the lower part of the fan. Never touching the plate that is screwed to the roof to support the fan.

Fordzilla,
Al had BOTH factory fans stabilized in manner you suggest. He spent over 4 hours on each one being sure they were sturdy in the ceiling, all parts were tightened down, even balanced the fan blades. Stupid things just had lousy motors! Al even took the motor off and ran it while holding it, it hummed even then, BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes on the humming fan.Friends of our just got a 3670 and the fan hums like mad.135.00 you say.. another item to add to my "questions" on the factory tour..Think I will ask them NOT to install the fan and get a good one at Home depot for less money..

Ours doesn't "hum", but will rock back & forth on the higher speeds. On low I can't hear it.

We have a ceiling fan also in our 2005 298rls Mountaineer and the fan is very quit, no problems. I wonder why some are having problems and others not? Happy Camping

Like Sue said, we have no problem with noise in ours and we run it continuously when camping.
Of course, Marsha constantly says that I am going deaf...

Our fan was,is terrible. The dealer said the factory wouldn't replace it, Montana said it was up to the dealer and wouldn't help me at all. Now every time I use the fan I cuss Montana. It's not very good business to have customers unhappy over such nickel and dime items.

No problem here on the fan noise. Did have the blades come loose once. That'll make you think you've had too much to drink. Wobbled around (the fan, not me) - thought I was hallucinating.

No noise out of ours either but felt it really didn't move much air at all. Big thing was I am short and couldn't reach the pull chain to get it started. We replaced ours with one from Home Depot with a remote control. This one moves a lot more air and I can adjust it while sitting in those really uncomfortably recliners.

We extended the pull by adding more chain just as we have done with all the ceiling fans in our stick home. There are also some really cute pulls that you can put on them. We have ceiling fans in all our rooms and the patio in our stick house. The ceiling fan in the Monty may not be as good as the $300 ones we have but it is better than the $98 one. And we really like our recliners.
Happy trails................

I doubt if these Rv manufacturers keep large inventories of things like ceiling fans, recliners, tires on hand. They probably put that stuff out on bid every couple of months or so(lowest bidder of course) I have seen several different brands of tires, fan, furniture in these Rv's. Quality will of course vary.I bought a ceiling fan at Home depot for my computer room, On sale for 39.99, sounded like it was grinding walnuts, got what I paid for. Got a Hunter fan, 129.99, can't hear it run..Turn your recliner upside down and take a look at the structure. It is like a movie set..Looks great from the outside..not much on the inside.Think for a moment what it must cost keystone to build the camper.. In round figures. And some of this is not guess work as Helen and I sold RV's for awhile. The MSVRP for a unit is 50,000, I can buy it from the dealer for 36,000.He needs to make a profit and he buys the Rv from Montana and they need to make a profit. The actual cost for Montana to build that MSVRP 50,000 $ camper that can be had for 36,000$ is more like 25 or 26,000..or less if they can get a low bid on tires or fan or recliner. That is why I do not feel bad about starting at 32 or 35% off the sticker when we buy.

Ours is also very quiet and has been for the three years we've had it.
Rich, IF you can convince the factory to not install the ceiling fan (unlikely, by the way) I don't think you will get any price credit. So you might as well have it installed and then replace it later if it's a bad one. This thread makes it clear there have been some bad ones but I'd bet many more are good ones. You might just get a good one and save the replacement dollars.
FYI, we didn't want the recliner since we'd experienced them in our first Montana. Our dealer told us it could be left out but we'd not get credit. So we let them put it in and we replaced it. The original we then sold in our auction when we started fulltiming.
