Stackable W/D Question

I have a stackable washer & dryer installed in my new unit. We'll be taking the Monty out for her shakedown trip to a C.O.E. Campground that doesn't have sewer hookups (dump station only).

Can I use the washer, or does it have to be hooked up to a sewer? How many gallons of water does a load take?

Thanks!

A typical load uses between 7-16 gallons of water according to the web site and depends on several factors (load size, number of cycles, etc.). On a 3850, the washer drains into the galley tank, which is where your kitchen sink drains to as well. This tank is approximately 45 gallons. It totally depends on your usage, but you should be able to a load or two just to get familiar with the washer.

Please make sure your W/D is connected to your grey water tank if you are testing it without a direct sewer connection. On my 3402RL the W/D drain bypasses all tanks and goes directly to the sewer discharge pipe. I can't run the W/D without sewer connection.

BTW, I'm not implying that yours isn't plumbed as Bingo says, it's just that I was told how mine was plumbed and it turned out to be wrong. I think Keystone just flips a coin each morning to decide how they plumb the W/C that day.

We have a 2013 3750FL. The washer drains directly to the sewer

Everyone needs to keep in mind that the washer/dryer in the 3850 is located in a slide that also contains the kitchen. I believe that is the reason it drains to the galley tank. With that said it is always a good idea to verify, when we winterize and want to visually observe the antifreeze flushing, we have to open the galley tank valve with the handle located beneath the kitchen slide.

I'd trust Bingo far more than Keystone, but having experience with Keystone, it doesn't hurt to check particularly to make sure nothing leaks or is plugged. With us the leak was in the washer, not the plumbing, but it's easier to clean up a mess before you go out.

Our 3850 is plumbed into the galley tank. If you are planning to stay at the C.O.E. campground for a week or more I would wait until we had a sewer connection before using the W/D unless I had tote to empty the tank. JMHO.

Good advice everyone! We do, indeed, have a portable 27 gallon grey water tank. Mostly I want to run the washer & dryer while we're on this trip to make sure everything works as it should. We'll be only 45 minutes from where we purchased it.

How would we check for a blockage before running the washer?

Easiest way, but probably frowned on, is to open the previously mentioned galley tank valve, remove the cap from the sewer connection on your rig, start the washer on the rinse cycle, and if water comes out the sewer connection, you are good to go. You will have to be ready to stop the washer (see instruction manual or flip the breaker in the breaker panel) when the water appears. I guess to be "politically correct" you could put a bucket beneath the sewer outlet to catch the water!

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think this will prove that the washer drains into the galley tank. Water will come out the sewer discharge either way won't it?

It was not intended to check whether it drains into the galley tank, that part I know based on ours and Jay_Bird's 3850FL (now with that said, maybe the Amish Craftsmen decided to do something drastic on Napria's rig, but not likely). It would show whether there is a clog in the drain which is what was asked. There is no way for the drain in the slide to direct discharge to the sewer outlet unless Keystone has done some really intricate plumbing, which I doubt. If all valves are shut and the water comes out the sewer, then it is direct plumbed, as our previous two rigs were.

Ours had the back flow device backwards, water ran out instead of in drain

Ugh, what a nerve wracking thing to be coming from a fifthwheel that the kinks were worked out of nine years ago!

I wish you all could come camp with us in a week on our shakedown trip.
