Tires Options?

I am confused. I have a 2016 HM 375 rated for 235/80R16E tires on the chassis sticker. The Axles are rated for 7,000 lbs. My OEM Ranier tires are now 5 years old and hard as rocks and need replaced.

My rims are the ones that came with the RV. Aluminum with black trim and all metal valve stems. I have no idea where to look for a stamp on the wheels for a pressure rating. Can I mount Sailun 235/80R16F tires on these rims?

on the inside of your rim it should be stamped near the center, I believe its 110 psi. pretty hard to see when mounted with drum in the way.
I have a 2016 3721 and they were stamped 110 again I believe.
might want to look at 235/85r16 "G", when I was looking the 85 seems more common and they fit just fine.

The stamp for the rim rating is usually on back side on one of the spokes. The tires are same size you have on it now so no problem. I have same unit as loveless and put 235/85/16 on mine also.

You really need to pull a wheel and check for the rating stamp before you put on G-rated tires, just in case they're only 80psi wheels. Depending on your load, you may not need to upgrade to G-rated unless you want to, and even then, you may not need to max out at 110psi based on the tires' load chart.

I full timed for years but stopped in 2019 when the wife went to work and never came home. I then had it in a park now near my new bricks and sticks home.

So my OEM Ranier Korea Babies lasted 5 years. It is not likely @73 I will ever do a lot of travelling as the new Wife is not a camper (yet) and thus I do not want to spend a fortune when it may not be needed.

I thought I should go with new tires but not rims as rims can be very expensive. I can afford Sailuns at about $200 per tire. I read where the rim needs to be wider for a Sailun "85R16 G" versus a Sailun "80R16 "F" tire.

So I do want a good tire but also will not be using it more than 30 days a year.

The stock 6" wide rim is acceptable for Sailuns. All Montanas come with 6" rims and Montana has used Sailuns exclusively, on the non-HC models, for the last three years.

I wasn't aware that Sailun made a "F" rated tire for RVs. All I have ever seen are the "G" rated ones.

Here is a product sheet for all steel Sailun trailer tires. Currently there are two designated sizes and both come with a LRG rating.

That limits that wheel/rim to 3200# or less per axle end with 6 lug hole wheels and 3750# with 8 lug hole wheels.

What that means in the real world is this; that allows that rim to be fitted with LRG tires and inflated to 110 PSI but their maximum load cannot be above 3200#/3750# per axel end depending on the number of lug holes.

USTMA - Never exceed the maximum pressure and/or load capacity
of the rim/wheel.

NOTE: that stamp is normally provide with collaboration between the wheel manufacturer and the OEM provider. That information is not required to be on the wheel per FMVSS standards. See 571.120 paragraph S5.2.

Thanks so much for the tire info and the picture of the rim stamp. My Rims are 8 bolt. I cannot see the full stamping but I could at least see a stamp showing they are rated for 3750 @ 110 PSI. This is stamped/molded on the rear of the spoke.

I googled dealers of Sailun in Canton Ohio and stopped at 3 locations to get pricing and install. All three of them tried to get me to purchase Hercules Tires or Samson Tires. They stated Hercules are made by Cooper.

So is it better to buy the ST235/80R16 or the ST235/85R16. The difference is the 85 is a bit wider?

I guess I will have to buy them from Amazon and pay a bit to get them mounted and balanced if I cannot find a local selling dealer.

You should stick with the original equipment size and go to a LRF (Polyester) or LRG (all steel). That way your vehicle certification label stays valid.

The ST235/85R16 is a larger tire. When using larger tires you're actually plus sizing and that requires modifications of the vehicle owner's manual, tire and load placard and vehicle certification label. The installer will also have to determine and set a new recommended cold inflation pressure for the larger tires.

Keep in mind that adding a load range has nothing to do with the tire size. The LRG will provide an identical load capacity as the LRE at 80 PSI.

The 85's are 1" taller (raises the RV 1/2") and carry about 400 (?) lbs more. I do not believe they are wider. The 85 is the Aspect Ratio of sidewall depth to tread width.

Just an FYI Cooper tire has been bought out by Goodyear, I would be cautious.

That's a tough one as we're just now seeing evidence of Sailuns made in Vietnam, and a handful of anecdotal failures, and no way of knowing if there's a connection or trend. Maybe Hercules, Westlake, some variety of Coopers, or GY Endurance if they're available in your size and rating.

At this point there is not a proven alternative. I just installed 5 new Sailun.

I’ll be looking to replace tires next year, those Hankook TH31 is what I go with if the Sailun tires keep having issues.

I’ve used High performance Hankook tires on my Charger SRT and never had any issue with them
