Black water flush problem
I have an 06 2955RL; I used to connect the flush hose to the valve on the side and flush the black tank as I was dumping. I could always hear a water like noise circulating throught the plumbing in an area behind the shower or fridge when doing this but the tank flushed great. Now all of a sudden the flush water will absolutely not go in. It is like the line is plugged. I have tried filling the black tank to the top and leaving it for days [soaking any clogged nozzels in the tank. this did not work! so I believe that the prob is some type of in-line check valve [hence the circulating noise I use to hear]; does anyone out there have any information or schematics regarding this. Montana was zero help. Several dealers were zero help. I like to fiz=x my own stuff so thanks for your help. We are leaving for a 3 month excursion in 15 days.

There is a valve with the black Flush. I have never had to replace. I'm sure someone out there who has replaced will respond.

Jim,
If your 06 is anything like the 08 2955RL there is an anti-siphon valve located in the wall behind the shower. It can be accessed through those access panels in cabinet behind the shower. That valve can go bad or stick and cause the problem you describe. If that valve freezes or collects scale it can stick. You might be able to tap it and break things loose or remove it and flush it out. If not it can be replaced.
Mine was bad when I took delivery of our 08.

I wonder where that valve is on an '09 3400RL? When I use the pressure rinse while draining the black tank, I get fresh water coming out of the coach and running along the frame. I can't see where the water is coming from, but it is fresh and not black.

Look in kitchen pantry for plastic access cover. The valve should be behind the cover which comes off after removing the 4 screws. Hope this helps. This was true of our 08 3400.

They're in three basic places. Some rigs have them behind the shower, others in the kitchen pantry and if not in those places it's under the bathroom sink which is where ours was.

Thanks for the info. Evidently it's not the valve, because when I use the flush, I can hear water going into the black tank, but I still can't figure out where the "leak" is which allows water to flow out the bottom of the rig and run out on the ground. Must be something else.

That valve is just clear plastic and can have a hair line crack, leaking and yet allow water to flow to tank. On my 07 2955 the valve is below the inspection plate about 6 ". Locate it and watch while someone turns on the water. Some on here has cut hole for access to the valve, that is not nessacery, on mine I went in basement unscrewed a coulpe connections and push line up so valve could be replaced through inspection plate. Push back down and reconnect lines in basement. The valves can be bougth from manufactuer in Texas. Was 25.00 each

While on this topic, a newbie question about the black flush;
While flushing, what sort of water flow should I be seeing out the sewer connection? My inbound water pressure is about 45 psi, & I see less than an inch of water flowing out when the flush is running. Is this 'normal'?
Many thx

sapest,
After the black tank is mostly flushed out and the black flush spray is on, there is only a trickle. This is because the flush spray is a fine spray under pressure that tries to reach all parts of the tank and therefore not a lot of flow.
I find that closing the black tank valve and letting the black flush spray refill the black tank, then after about 10 to 20 minutes elapses, open the black valve again. You find debris still being washed out of the tank because the sprayer doesn't always clean every corner of the tank and needs standing water to loosen things up. I will refill several times (2-3) before I'm happy with the color of the water that trickles out of the outlet.
CAUTION: DO NOT leave the black tank valve closed and the flush still on, then walk away. I've heard stories of owners "forgetting about it" and returning to an overflow mess in the rig. I hope I am never one of them. When I am cleaning out ALL the tanks I do nothing else. Sure it takes a while but I won't have any problems with inattentiveness or forgetfulness. Draining tanks requires 100% uninterrupted attention.

Thank you for this info. I have been leaving the valve closed for 2 min for the same reason, I was to nervous to leave it closed any longer. Next time I will be more relaxed. And use a timer!
And now I know my valve is working properly (which btw is located behind the shower, access thru the pantry - 06 3400 RL)

Take a gallon jug and time how long it takes to fill using the same water source you are going to use to flush the tank. Multiply the time by the gallon capacity of your black tank. That will give you a pretty close estimation as to how long you can leave the dump valve closed before overflowing the tank. The best clean out happens when the tank is full but as Art states not the disaster an overflow tank creates. Jim

My black tank fills in about 10-12 minutes with the flush, so I don't let it go for more than 5-6 minutes before I empty it. It's a good idea to check the fill lights, though, to get an idea of how fast your flush is filling the tank.
