3655FL - grey and black water dump valves reversed
Just took our new 3655FL on the beginings of its journeys. While spending our first few days in it, we discovered that the black water holding tank and grey water holding tank dump valves appeared to be mislabeled. After several repeats of filling, dumping and flushing (using the optional black tank rinse feature), it became apparent that the handle labeled “grey” did, in fact, actually operate the black tank dump valve, and the one labeled “black” operated the grey water dump valve. The valves are located side by side, with the one labeled “black” aft of the one labeled “grey”. I am told that is the “standard” configuration for Montanas.
I took the FL to the dealer’s for some warranty work, including that item. He confirmed that the valves were mislabeled, and that the grey tank is actually located aft of the black tank on the FL models. They relabeled the handles, grey to the right (aft) of the black, looking at them through the left side access door. The system now works “as advertised”
On Friday, 25 July, I contacted Ron Kilmer, Keystone Customer Support, regarding this issue. He called back and confirmed that the engineers told him that, for the FLs only, the “standard” Montana configuration is reversed. On the FLs only, the black tank and dump handle is forward (left) of the grey tank and dump handle. That is due to the relative locations of the toilet and the shower/bath in the FL configuration.
If you have a FL, you might want to check the labeling of your black/grey dump valves, and verify their actual function. This is important to us, as users, since the “common technique” is to keep the grey tank open and the black closed when connected to a sewer dump in a campground. If the black tank valve is left open instead, due to mislabeling, the eventual result will be a clogged and unusable black tank. Not fun.
Check it out.
