wilmington, ohio

We have not said much about the economy for some time now as even those who keep themselves locked in a dark room may be vaguely aware that something is not right.

Wilmington, Ohio is a town of 12K . When DHL stops operation 7K folks will lose their jobs..Thats right 7K jobs most of them in that little town and the surrounding area. Not to mention provider jobs that will go away, Suppliers, truck drivers,Maint jobs, Thousands of jobs over that 7K will be lost.

I am sure those folks will be offered other jobs.I mean finding a job is easy. Things will get better..Don't worry about it...be positive.
We who are not affected do not want to hear about your troubles. It is your doom and gloom..not ours.

Oh Ford and GM shares are under 3.00..I think Ford under 2.00. GM says it will be out of money by the first of the year. For those commnon folks who's retiremet income depends on that..don't worry..things will get better they always do. Go out a find a job.. they are easy to find.

I have been out here long enough.Don't want to hear anymore. I will return into my dark room.Nothing bothers me in there...

Rich,

You are pushing the envelope!

You are totally correct, lots of folks don't want to hear the truth.

Just read the blogs about how people feel about "bailing out" the auto companies. They are totally against it, even tho the auto companies have a bucket load of trickle down jobs. I hear lots of talk about how the American car is substandard, but when is the last time the talkers drove an American car. Our son had the opportunity to drive a Focus lately, Ford name, who knows where it was built???, but a Ford name on it, and he was very impressed. Lot of jabber about how the car companies need to restructure and downsize, well, obviously, you are not one of the over 400,000 people that have lost jobs in Michigan in the last few years, many of those were auto jobs.

My point, I guess, is, if you are going to kick someone in the pants, please be sure you know what kind of pants they are wearing??? (And, I'll bet you, they were not made in the USA, cause all those jobs left the USA years ago.)

Want tires made in the USA, most of that is gone too. Steel, gone, Telies - gone. The list goes on and on - - - - -

But, lets not talk about it, cause if you don't it won't hurt you. Well, sorry folks, a bunch of this hurt we are in, is cause we stick our heads in the sand and just plug along in our own little world.

In our little world, we are breathing a bit easier now that the price of fuel has dropped, we can afford to do the volunteer work again, and maybe travel. That said, that Ford pension check feels right nice when it hits the bank each month. Hope it hits next month.

If you don't think this mess affects you and the ones you care about, you might want to really listen to your friends, there are many here on the MOC that have been hurt and even devastated by this mess. I know some personally, I'll bet you do too.

OKKKK, off my soapbox, be kind to those you love, open your ears and hearts, listen my friends. Please listen.

Carol..As you know we live in "Ford Country" We had 7 Ford Plants not to long ago. A huge number of our friends work at Ford or did work at Ford or draw Ford pensions. Ford has a huge impact on that areas economy. Clichés like...Things will get better, they always do...go find another job, they are out there are meaningless. It seems that many folks blame the individual for being out of work, unable to pay the mortgage or car payment. What if suddenly your paycheck or pension disappeared..Hw long could you pay the bills. Where would you get another job or source of income. What would you do. Apply the circumstances to yourself. Oh.it could never happen to me you say..I am to smart for that. I am not like those dumb people who worked for DHL in Wilmington, Ohio.Their fault.. Compassion..who me???

Ok.I will remain in my dark room..nothing more to say...

There but for the grace of God, go I.

If our pension goes belly up, we will get about 50 % on the Government guarantee plan. I believe that would be optomistic, Al's uncle (steel) got something like 33 to 40 % of his pension when they went belly up.

Maybe we will get to full time after all?? Wonder where all my research is gonna go in Tana??

OOO, I guess I have no reason to be worried. All is right with our world.

I am very sarcstic about this subject, if I have offended, I am sorry. Worry tends to make me that way I guess.

Man the guns, hide my head in the sand, we are still gonna go to Texas after the holidays, unless, that check fails to clear the bank. That is our optomistic side acting out!

I am deliberately sarcastic as many may have noted. But it is sarcasm based on reality. I do not mean to offend but do encourage thought.

Hey you guys - I have found the "dark room to hide". We have been in Vegas for 2 weeks. We have been coming out here for over 10 years. This is one of the busiest years we have ever seen. Consumer confidence is either up here (I doubt that) OR these people really are in denial. Sat outside the mall yesterday and I would say 1 in 5 people came out of the mall without carrying 2-3 purchases. Its amazing. All the tables in the casinos crowded with people in almost every hotel we have travelled through. Traffic is more profound on the strip and foot traffic -- after 2 weeks give me a quiet campground!!! Just FYI!!! Cyndie

Economy Affecting Las Vegas

The struggling economy is hitting Las Vegas in its main industry -- tourism. The number of visitors coming to Vegas has fallen 10% compared to a year ago. It's the largest decline since the weeks immediately after the September 11 attacks, when people were afraid to travel. But Vegas rebounded quickly then. Economists say the downturn this time around is different and will run much deeper. Casino revenues have been down all year as well, with nine straight months of declines. Las Vegas has always been able to count on its draw as an international city, but since the economic downturn is hitting other parts of the world, fewer overseas visitors have the funds to travel abroad."

Google "las Vegas economy" They are in a decline as eveything else.

While I understand everyones point here. I also believe that if everyone quit watching the news, (and other venues of sensational information) the economy would return faster. This was done with Regan and his abilities to get the nation to "believe" in themselves. I don't know if our new President elect will have this same effect. I can only hope so. If his abilities do mezmerize the public then maybe we will start our financial climb out of this bottomless pit of doom and despair.
