Me thinks I jinxed myself.....

At the NE Rally I got a pair of the new closest latches for the sliding mirrored doors.
Up until 2 days after getting the latches I never had any of them break for me. Well you guessed it, 2 days after getting them I broke a latch. Was I jinxed or was it just a coincidence?

Do the tip I found on this site install a thick o ring on each screw behind the latch and it relieves alot of pressure off the plastic latch.

Glenn, I had a problem with those things till I noticed how hard they were to close. They have a spline between the locking clasps that I cut off that made them close easier and did not affect the locking ability. It is hard to describe, but look in between the locking clasps and you will see what I mean.
I have not had any problems with the one I cut that piece off. I

After having trouble unlocking ours and finally breaking two, we got replacements and drilled new screwholes so that they could be set out just a hair. Now they hold in a locked position and are not hard to open. I saw that trick here on the forum, too.

Glenn,
I think the definition of "retirement" that you gave me at the rally is what jinxed you. Now you have some work to do. Wonder what is next??? Ha Ha!!

I haven't seen the kind of latch you are using, Glenn. We've still never broken one of the original Montana latches in any of our three Montanas since January 2001.

What works really well for us is a tip I picked up here. Cheap o-rings from Ace Hardware placed on the screws between the latch and the frame. That lets the easily swivel to release the latch but won't let them unlatch on their own. Excellent. It cost me about thirty cents because I bought several sizes to see which fit best.

Well hopefully I won't have any further problems as the NEW latches are different than the older ones. The new ones have what can best described as a lever to aid in the opening. They are apparently using these latches on the new Montys.
Time will tell.

Glenn,

Within 3 months of ownership we broke the first set of latches. We've been through a few sets since then. I've seen other systems and was going to query the dealer to get their part number for the latch until the NE Spring rally. Bill installed the new ones and I'm tickled with how they work.

I'm with you, time will tell, though I haven't disabled by back up latch system--yet.
