Robin Industries Fifth Wheel Hitch

Recently had CW install a Robin Industries Fifth Wheel Hitch. Upon arrival at home, noticed a bolt that secured the hitch to bed of the truck had sheared off at the head. No load had been placed on the hitch since it was installed.

CW removed and replaced all eight bolts that secured the hitch to the bed of the truck with bolts from a Reese hitch package. Assumption being that the Reese bolts which were made in the US were of better quality than those in the Robin package. CW service manager contacted Robin Industries concerning the possibility of defective bolts being used. Of the eight bolts that were removed, five appeared to be defective. Robin Industries advised CW service manager not to return the bolts to them for testing and analysis. They advised CW service manager they would just send them new bolts.

Has anyone experienced a similar problem of this nature?

We have contacted, via email, ASTM to see if they will test the bolts. We are concerned that the bolts are substandard/defective and others may experience a similar problem that could have catastrophic consequences.

Jan and Wayne, I've not personally experienced that problem nor have I heard of it before. But it sounds like something everyone needs to be aware of. Thank you for the headsup.
