Replaced the Quest QR2000!

A little background. The only two problems with the new rig were the assist handle rubbing on the slide when stowed(dealer will fix this at the end of the season) and an annoying hiss(white noise?) from the DVD/Suround even with the volumn turned all the way down. Dealer said he would replace the unit when I get the handle problem fixed. In the meantime the QR2000 died totaly, so I arrange with the dealer that I'll remove the old and reinstall the replacement to save dragging the rig 100 miles. I do that and guess what? the replacement works but has the same annoying hiss, I guess it's in the design. Anyway I had been looking at inexpensive units to replace it and saw a Koss KS4102 at Sears that fit the bill and sounded very good. Today Sears has a one day sale with an additional $50 off for a $129 final price. Took about an hour to swap the unit(used most of the origional speakers) Added bonus and brownie points, I installed the new Subwoofer in the cabinet under the desk and removed the old one from the cabinet where my wife keeps pots and pans(a dumb place to put it anyway). New system sounds great, I'm happy, wife happy, a real win-win. Only drawback is I need an A-B switch for the bedroom speakers, QR2000 had it built it KS4102 doesn't, not a complicated fix just need to make a run to Radio Shack.

How much trouble was it to reroute the wires for the sub? I too am not inpressed with the factory installed system and I am planning on replacing it. We live in a suburb of Milwaukee the home of Koss so we will be looking at the Koss factory store. It almst looks like a no brainer change over which it has to be if I don't want to screw it up.

Tom
This is an easy swap to do. The wiring is straight forward. I used a piece of tape to label the wires as I removed them and placed them on the same terminals on the Koss system(remember the black or black stripe wire goes to the black terminal). I left the old subwoofer wire and rear speakers disconnected( I'll add a sw for the rear speakers later) I ran a new wire from the Koss unit, down through the existing openings to the TV cabinet. I then drilled a 1/4" hole(at a 45 degree angle) in the left rear of the tv cabinet into the cabinet under the computer desk and pushed the wire through the hole and connected it to the subwoofer(our 3670 has the fireplace or I'd place it under the tv cabinet). The subwoofer sits snugly in the right front of the cabinet, I used a 2" piece of Velcro to secure it to the side of the cabinet. I also used 1" pieces of velcro on the feet of the main unit instead of driving the screws through the bottom. I'm using all the origional speakers except for the subwoofer, the impedance is the same so there should be no ill effects to the amplifier. I'll install the rest of the Koss speakers when I feel ambitious to do a little wood working because it will require reworking the wood strip that holds the front 3 speakers.

Mike: Where is the sub woofer on the 3670? We have a 2004 with some 2005 features and I don't know where you mean (where your wife keeps her pots and pans)

Ours was in the bottom cabinet to the right of the refridgerator all the way in the back. It looks like a black box with two wires attached and held in place with a velcro strap.

it's funny, I was so excited when we found out we would have a surround sound system...and now I think it's junk! the system in my old camper was 10 times nicer...and easier to use.
