Just starting out

Sharon and myself have had it with the corporate world, spring of "07" and we are out of here with our new Montana 3500RL. We are looking to be working camp hosts, any idea on where newbi's might start-out?

There have been several threads on the "Workamping" Section [forum] here so you might try starting there. I think there were some references to different sites that had more info.

Here is a site for starters:
http://www.workamper.com/WorkamperNews/WNIndex.cfm
Many of the State Parks, BLM & National Parks advrtise---some paid positions and some just provide spaces/hookups. Some of the larger recreational areas have private contractors who run the concessions, like at Lake Powell:

Let me----I retract that---let us know how you make out.

Welcome to the site. Workamper news will be a good place to start. Whatever you do, make sure you have a CLEAR understanding of what is expected of you and what you get in return, before you start work.

Absolutely and GET IT IN WRITING. From personal experience, Verbal agreements are worthless.

BTW-Welcome to the MOC Family.

Thanks for the input, as being in our early 50's still, we would love to just travel, but without any retirment income as of yet, looks like we have no choice but to work. We are still new to the website and have enjoyed reading about all of your travels.... we can't wait !!

Welcome to MOC. The classified ads in some of the RV magazines also list some resources for work camping.

Send a message via Yahoo to Chaser
I got in on this one late - another suggestion, check with your National Park Service (Yellowstone and Glacier for example) and with the National Forest Service and State Parks along your travel route - you can see all of these on line first, then sort out what you might be interested in, and where for any given time of the year. I'm sure there is a waiting list at some of the popular spots, and other areas will be searching for volunteers where you can stay free, and maybe one of you could get a paying job (or both)....worth searching...

Check my friends website (www.coolworks.com) He knows the ins and outs of the National Park Service System and their Concessioners. Good Luck and Welcome!

All of the above suggestions are good. We, like you, took a "time out" from work in our early 50's and have workamped for a concessionaire in the Eastern Sierra's, and have volunteered for state, county and U.S. Fish & Wildlife exchanging our time for a site. We will be starting our 8th year in October and have no intention of stopping anytime soon. Good luck and hope to see you on the road.
