New Axle/Spring Configuration on new units
While under my rig last night, I noticed something intriguing about the springs. The ones under my 2020 3790RD are 8k springs(7 leaves) on 7k axles. I mentioned it on another forum and was told by the Dexter Rep that they are in fact 8k springs with the thicker walled 7k axles. Pretty cool!!!

Just a half step to the many complaints and fixes most of us full timers have already made out of pocket. There is no reason they are not putting 8k full suspensions on these rigs. Leafs, hubs, axles, brakes and 9/16" or greater lugs.

I have said the same thing for years and have done lots of research on the topic. I have always said even thought they may not offer disc brakes, the 8k axle brake shoes are quite a bit larger than the 7k shoes, which would help with braking.
The other thing I came up with was that if they put 8k axles, it would virtually eliminate the 3/4 ton market from these rigs. I know, I know, I'm not getting into that discussion, but with that high of a weight rating and the weight ratings on vehicle manufacturers, IF people went by the numbers, a lot of trucks would be left out. And YES, I'm very familiar with the differences in the trucks is VERY minor, and I also realize that the reason for the weight ratings of the trucks varies hugely from state to state. A lot of states have higher taxes on 350/3500 trucks over 250/2500 and in some states they must be insured differently.

I wish my unit had those brakes��. If we keep it I would like to upgrade to the disk brakes and if possible also step up to the independent suspension. Right now I need to keep my money in my pocket, but I sure like disk brakes on trailers.

I do have to admit...every failure I had on my old 7k axles was the springs - broke 3 of them But when upgraded to 8k, I did everything 8k. You buy the entire suspension from dexter, including 8k Kodiak discs. It all ships assembled. You simply bolt it on. It also raises the height of the RV ~4" iirc.
