Hot water heater not functioning

Hot water will not heat in electric mode. When I switched to gas mode it doesn't attempt to ignite the hot water heater. On the panel inside the unit everything works except the hot water. When the switch is depressed for gas,if I remember correctly,it should turn red, and if the heater doesn't ignite it turns off and a small indicator light next to the switch is turned on. None of this happens. I have checked all the fuses, and reset the circuit breaker for the hot water heater. I've also pushed the reset switch on the heater itself. The other thing that is strange is that none of the gray, black water or battery indicators light up when depressed. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Ted,

There is a troubleshooting guide for the water heater in the files section.

Close, but in actuality, the gas rocker switch illuminates when it is turned on along with the a little red LED next to it. Once the heater ignites on gas, the LED goes out. The heater will make three tries to ignite on gas before it gives up.

Can you hear it trying to ignite on gas?

The diagnostic manual AZ_Traveler pointed to is the place to start. I might guess no 12V but I would follow the steps on the manual.

The second, thin, brown ribbon near the top of the page has a link to the Files Section.

Once there, you want the Systems collection where you will find a couple of files: Water Heater Troubleshooting - Suburban and Suburban Water Heater Service & Training Manual

Does anything else work on 12 volts, like your lighting? If not, do you have the battery disconnect switch turned off. You need 12 volts to make the relay operate to get the 120 volts to work on the water heater, and you also need the 12 volts to make the igniter work to make the gas side to work. Not seeing any of the red lights on the switches makes me think your 12 volts going to the inside panel is turned off.

Have you confirmed that you have 12VDC at the convenience center control panel? Wondering if maybe the 12V supply wire is not connected 🤷*♂️

Since your original post says the 120 electric side doesn't work and the LP side wont ignite this PDF may help you TS the 120 side...

You may also find this video I out together showing you how to pull out the igniter and clean it and measure the gap along with a few other things I do once a year on my Suburban WH before we start traveling

Probably doesn’t apply, but we didn’t have hot water on either side (propane or electric). I determined I did have hot water, but I forgot to switch from Fill to Normal Flow after refilling water.

Is the little rocker switch located in the outside water heater panel turned on? It is hidden behind the plumbing.
