AND - another question

I think we have all seen birds or geese fly south for the winter. Typically they fly in a "V" formation. In that "V" formation, one line is longer than the other. There is a mathematical reason for one line being longer.

What is it?

Draw it out. I'm sure ya'll will come up with the correct answer.
