Truck sound
It's very seldom that I get to hear my truck start up and pull away because I'm usually driving it. My wife needed it today and it was very cool to hear the growl when it started up and drove away.

Getting to where you don't hear that sound much any more. Guess in a few years it will be all but forgotten. Good? Bad? Depends on your point of view I guess. I liked that sound. But am really glad I have one that purrs now. I no longer have to turn it off in a fast food or bank drive thru.

The Ram with the 5.9L Cummins is a noisy machine. Just like Fords with the earlier Powerstroke engine. New trucks have to meet certain sound level requirements. As Bill said, some owners like the din of the earlier engines.

I'm not a fan of the growl. Particularly when the park I'm in is populated by oil field workers who leave for work at 6am or earlier and all have diesel trucks.

When I bought my '07, the first thing I noticed was how quiet the engine was compared to my '04. I didn't like it. The '04 Duramax was much noisier, but nothing like the older Powerstrokes and Cummins. Now, I hear my engine more and compared to the new Ford and Ram diesels, it's quite noisy. I also like the whistle from the turbo.

My Cummins is the HO. Much quieter than its predecessor. My growl comes from the 5" tail pipe.

Our 6.7 is very quiet. At first I missed the rumble, now I like it. My neighbors also appreciate it when I crank up early in the morning.

I was a trucker for 20 years and sometimes when I wake at night I can still hear the whistle of a big turbo! LOL

When we're vending at an art/craft show, I ask for a spot near the exit just so we don't wake up the whole campground. Usually we're asked why we don't want to be near the pool, lake, or whatever the big attraction is, but they're happy to give us what they can when I explain. That 6.0 is no where near as loud as an old Dodge/Cummins, but can get close when it's cold!

We're pretty considerate of others in the AM. We usually don't hit the road until after 8.

One of the reasons we never got the diesel till 2008 was that they stunk and were noisy. I am legally deaf in my right ear and one of the contributing factors, IMO , was the noisy Cummins diesel in the dog house of my school bus about 3 feet away.
