Ozz: 1 landscaping truck: 0

Title edited by RVWheels, MOC Admin.

Don't get excited, could have been an Irishman, Englishman, or a snowman. I was going on a service call, big truck, 24' Red Fiberglass ladder on top, pretty large and visible. I was doing about 60, car to my left, car right behind me, tail-gating, of course. I could see the 1/2 ton Chevy landscaping truck coming onto them on-ramp very fast, as the distance closed I could see he was not looking, eating a sandwich with his left hand, I couldn't slam on the breaks or the moron behind me would have run into me, couldn't get over, so I gave the merging truck a full 160 DB Grover Fire-truck blast. He saw me then... dropped his sandwich and slammed on his brakes. The moron behind me even slammed his brakes on. Very scary stuff this morning for me, I am super glad I had the super loud horn today.

I love it, I can't believe all the people that merge onto the freeway without even looking. We had one lady ran right into the side of our previous trailer, didn't see it behind the truck. Duuuhh

Driving under normal conditions (not towing), can be a scary experience in and of itself, but put a trailer on the back of your truck and the idiot factor increases at an remarkable rate! I used to figure I would do everyone a favor and travel in the slow lane while towing. No more! I travel in the middle lane and if anyone does not like it, then can pass/go around me. I have had too many close calls with "morons" merging onto the highway and either not looking or expecting me to compensate for their poor driving. Glad you did not end up as part of someone else's accident, Ozz.

Don't you just love those that merge into 65-70 MPH traffic doing maybe 30 at most?? And they seem to think they have the right of way.

The worst example of this I have observed has been on the Mass interstate system around Boston...traffic merging is told to "yield"...apparently, "yield" has a different meaning there than in the rest of the english speaking world!

I wish I would have had those air horns on the motorcycle when the pickup truck pulled out and broadsided me (I was doing 50mph) Shhhhsssssh!

I agree, people don't understand what "merge" is. I also travel the middle lane. I'll travel the right lane on a two lane interstate, but I'm forever watchful for those ID-10-T's.

The other side of this coin is the ones that STOP in the merge lane then look over their shoulder and wait until NO traffic is coming in ALL 3 LANES and then proceed! Merge? Whoever taught them how to drive must have skipped that chapter. This behavior is especially appreciated by large RV drivers and tractor-trailer drivers trying to get onto the main road.

I think the problem is "getthereitis". The majority of folks seem to be in such a hurry, then throw in us retired folks, who are usually in no particular hurry to get somewhere, and it seems a disaster waiting to happen. Heck, here in AZ the speed limit is 75 with no restrictions on towing vehicles and, again the majority of folks seem very inpatient if you are not doing 80. I try and drive 75, (not with the trailer attached), and get pushed off the road.... SLOW DOWN PEOPLE!!!!!!!

Jim, so glad you were ready for it and you probably saved this guys life. I always thought you were a little over the top with the horns but I admit now I may have been wrong!!!!

I'd still rather have shields and photon torpedoes!

Tom, if you did you would need a constant supply of dimethion crystals. I don't think you could get them at Lowes or Ace..
