First Trip Towing the Monty with new TV

We left Puerto Vallarta in June traveled to Washington DC via the coast. From Washington DC we headed west to Seal Beach, Ca. via I40. My old Dodge Ram's worst mileage
was 12.9 MPG and the average for the whole trip was 14.2 MPG. Unless I was climbing hills my average speed was 65 MPH. My MPG really improves when I keep the speed down between 55 and 60.

That mileage is much better than the 8 I was getting out my 2010, the last 300 miles of that trip I was driving straight into about a 20+ mph wind and just had about 2300 miles on the truck. I'm looking for it to get better as I get more miles on it. What is urea?

Urea tanks will be standard equipment for most new diesel trucks, buses, cars, and sport utility vehicles (SUVs) manufactured in the United States after Jan. 1, 2010. An automotive grade of urea will be injected into the vehicles' exhaust stream to "scrub" nitrogen oxide (NOx) from the diesel exhaust.

NOx, a major air pollutant, contributes to smog, which causes asthma and respiratory and heart diseases.

The system, urea SCR or "urea-based selective catalytic reduction," is the only technology available that can remove enough NOx from diesel exhaust to comply with strict new limits imposed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA.

The automotive urea, called "diesel exhaust fluid" (DEF) in the United States and AdBlue, a trademarked name in Europe, reduces NOx by as much as 90% alone, and can take NOx to near-zero levels when used in combination with diesel particulate filter technology.

Urea is the "DEF" fluid the Ford 6.7 needs added to meet EPA regulations. I'm just surprised your mileage was that low as I've been hearing how much better it was suppose to be.Instead of diesel fuel being added to clean the DPF as in the Ram, Ford uses this fluid. My mileage was as yours pulling some pretty steep hills and headwinds as well.

But I agree, as time goes on mileage should improve.

I knew about the DEF, I had just never it referred to Urea. When I take mine in for my first oil change, I am going to have the flash upgrade put on mine which is supposed to help fuel economy also. I guess time will tell.

Just returned from our trip to Lake of the Ozarks, just over a 1000 miles, a lot of head winds and we averaged 11.7 until the last day when the wind was really bad, dropped the average to 11.3 for the entire trip. The overall performance was excellent, power is awesome and at least 3 mpg better than our old 6.4, I really like this truck.
