Noticed fold up stairs have play and shake during travel

I saw some rub marks on my screen door where the fold up stairs press against the door.

With the stairs up and the screen door closed , I opened the sliding panel in the screen door (near the handle) and shook the stairs to test the amount of play..

It was considerable .

So I played with a 2x4 wedged between and some bracket to stop side movement and falling off while traveling.

The result is the stairs don't wobble at all and no pressure bowing the screen door...

The 2x4 floats in place. The only thing i did was to install (not shown) a small L-shaped bracket (on stairs bottom left )to stop the wood from sliding down and hitting the inside screen handle

The wood brace (2x4) just slides up and off and nothing left showing

We just use a grab handle which we installed to the screen door. This keeps the steps from moving.

At most RV Dealers or https://www.amazon.com/Camco-Screen-...s%2C723&sr=8-5

Also had to put spacers on the stop brackets.

Seems like lots of issues like this with these stairs. Glad I have the old steel fold in stairs. I keep them lubed and have been working great, are out of the way, don't fold into the inside of my rig, and are hight adjustable. Don’t know why they changed but glad I have the old style.

Yes there are many who hate those types of steps, including me, even though I have never owned an RV with them.

We just camped over the thanksgiving weekend, and a friend showed up in a new fifth wheel with the Mor Ryde steps that fold up into the doorway. When I went over to check out his new rig, the first step was nearly 2 feet off the ground. And that was with the adjustable legs all the way out and sitting on 6 lynx levelers on each leg.

If you really don't like the fixed length fold out steps, this might be a better option for you. https://www.torklift.com/rv/glowstep...ution-uprising

We have the Glowstep Revolution which mounts under the door in place of the older style folding steps, and it works great, and the uprising model should be just as strong and probably won't cause the issues you are having.

This is our steps, along with the accessory handrail added. The 3 and 4 step models are rated for 375 lbs, and they are solid.

We were in some campgrounds this summer when our steps were high off the ground but the was due to the unlevel condition of the site, not a design flaw. For that reason we now care an additional step for those rare campgrounds. Had the same issue with the old camper with the traditional style stairs.

The step is also handy for tilting the awning - the new units awnings are higher up

Modifying my 373RD to this style of stairs would be a long project.

I haven't even looked behind that skirting to see what it would take.

I believe Torklift has steps that replace the fold in ones.

Carl is right. I've been looking at a set of Glowsteps that fold up into the doorway similar to the original ones. They are called Glowstep Uprising https://www.torklift.com/rv/glowstep...ution-uprising

The spring board steps would also be way off of the ground.

That statement is absolutely correct. That's the reason why I trashed them years ago and put the glow step revolution on. I just recently added one step making them a five-step unit because the installation of the mor ryde independent suspension raise the camper around 5 in

We just noticed that our steps would not stay up all the way in the doorway. The door would hit them and then push them in all the way. We called MorRyde about it and they sent us the entire section that fits over the door threshold and holds the steps on for free. Haven't installed it yet. Give them a call and see if they will help you.

Our LCI steps rattled a bit too. I pop riveted a 1/16" piece of aluminum to each side of the door frame where the latch rests when closed then added a piece of 1/8" rubber as a bumper, J-B Weld would work too rather then the rivets. The aluminum strip does two things - adds significant strength at that latch area as well as reducing the flop and noise
