Puerto Pensacola diesel fuel

I am considering going to Puerto Penasco this winter. Has anyone been down there recently and is there low sulfur diesel fuel available on the way down.?

If you are staying all winter, you won't have much choice. I would get fuel where the commercial trucks are filling up, have an extra set of filters on hand, and drain your water separator frequently.

If you are just going there for a short time, fill up in Ajo (100 miles to Puerto Penasco) or Lukeville (6o miles) before crossing.

Don't believe everything you read on the internet, but here is a discussion:

I grew up in Ajo, but I can't really answer the questions; have not been down to Rocky Point for almost 20 years. Last time I was there, it was almost unrecognizable from when I was a kid; condos & hotels all over Sandy Beach by Cholla Bay where we had a cabin.

The roads used to be ok, but not much shoulder. Give the big trucks room; they will take it anyway. I can't speak about safety since it has been so long; I used to go there a few times per month with no problems. I have a friend living permanently in Santo Tomas (a little further south); he says its safe. Make sure you buy Mexican auto insurance; you can get it in Ajo during normal working hours. Absolutely no guns or even a single cartridge; they will throw you in jail. If I was to go there, I would not take my expensive rig; we used to, but that was before all the drug stuff.

PS: There is a Loves in Gila Bend, 40 miles north of Ajo on highway 85. Buy fuel there, it will be less expensive than Ajo. Top off in Ajo if you need to.
