Apple iPhones date crashing fix
Today, both of our iPhones began crashing for no obvious reason, DW's phone worse than mine. We even went to the phone store and they knew about the new iOS 11.2 update, but weren't sure if that would fix the problem. Turns out, this problem started early today, Dec 2nd, so it's date related. The fix, if your phone is crashing, is to go into Settings, then Notifications, and disable notifications in every App that has the switch turned on, and then when that is done, go into General, and you have to be connected through a wifi connection, and then activate the update. We just completed updating both our phones, and they are now working without crashing. During the process of turning off notifications, you may have to restart the phone several times to complete switching off the notification, but once they are all off, you can do the update without any other crashes. Once the update is complete, you can go back and turn on the Notification settings you disabled.
On restarting my phone, I discovered the Notification settings were restored to their previous settings, so no need to do this step.

Mine's a 5s and the DW's is a 6s. Just talked to a SIL, and not sure what his is, but it is also affected. I believe the iOS version on mine was 11.1.2, which was the latest version prior to this problem popping up, so this newest version, 11.2 is the most current version. From what I've read, Apple wasn't supposed to release this update this soon, but this bug fix forced them into sending it out yesterday. There are a number of other fixes in this release in addition to a new Apple Pay Cash feature, which is installed but isn't supposed to be activated just yet.

Thanks for the info. Neither mine (6) or DW’s (6S) have crashed. Yet. And both are running 11.2. But at least I will know what to do if they do crash.

If they are at 11.2, they should be good. If they were at the previous iOS, that would be the cause of crashing.
