Stove burner flame too high to simmer foods

Is there a way to adjust our Furrion stove burners so that they'll simmer foods? Even on the lowest knob setting the flame is too hot to allow foods to slowly simmer.

Rick and Becky,

Welcome to the forum! This is a great place to learn and share.

We had seen the issue with not being able to turn the burner down more and generally only leave part of the pot over the flame when we want to simmer.

After lighting the flame slowly turn the knob towards the “Off” position. This will give you a low flame that’s perfect for simmering.

We have propane at the S&B. Our Whirlpool gas range has a tiny flat head screw valve down inside the stems that hold the knob for each burner. With the burner lit - Tighten to decrease gas flow for lower flame or loosen for higher flame.

We have had the stove for 3 years and DW hated that she could never get the flame low enough to cook on what she considers LOW. I got the owners manual out and found the procedure I described above. Unfortunately it did not change the flame significantly. I need to do more research as to why it did not seem to work.

All of that being said - I have no idea if the Furion stove has similar adjustment capabilities. Call Furion and find out.

I don’t have a Furrion but I have to turn my knob slowly toward OFF until the flame drops down to a very low level.

Thanks to all of you for your helpful thoughts and ideas! I tried turning the knob toward ‘off’ and it seems to work as long as the flame isn’t too low, because when it was the burner made a clicking noise and then the flame went out.

Here's another option. We have purchased several styles of heat diffusers including this one (https://www.amazon.com/Ilsa-Diffuser...YDRQBJ85PET122) and this one (https://www.amazon.com/Kuhn-Rikon-En...2C71VNSR0144NF)
Sometimes when we need really low heat for a several hour simmer like spaghetti sauce we will stack two different ones together and have great success with no burn spots in the pan.

Stick a grate on top of the grate. Increases the distance.

First pic is with the burner on “Low”.
Second pic is a nice simmer you get when turning knob past the blue flame towards the “Off” position.

Remove knob insert small screwdriver in tube turn center or counter clockwise to get desired setting.

We asked Furrion about this and they told us they deliberately set the lowest flame not very low at all because "otherwise the flame blows out". We bought a couple of old-fashioned diffuser plates like my grandmother had, and those work pretty well to get a simmer.

We experienced the same problem when my wife was making chill on a recent cold rainy February day. She used the partial placement on the burner method which left a lot to be desired. We will try the "turn it almost off" method next rime Thanks for the info!

No need to buy expensive heat diverters.
Use an old circular saw blade or a table saw blade. They're designed to withstand heat and will diffuse the heat evenly to maintain a simmer on low.
No more hot spots either.
