Good grief - how much warning do we need

I just had to look in the Atwood IB for a part for our range. The parts list is pretty self explanatory except that the part, grate grommet, seem to have a different number now that Atwood is now Dometic.

With that said - of the 8 pages of "information" at least 50% is warning me of damage, destruction or - shudder - death. OK, I understand that propane appliance can be dangerous but does every paragraph need to start with a warning box? Oh, and the Atwood furnace and HW heaters are the same way, making reading them tedious.

OK, rant done, soap box stored until next time

Are you Hangry? Try a Snickers.

But watch out for the wrapper. Can cause serious injury or death from paper cut.

It's all about the lawyers. If you buy a box of dilly bars from Dairy Queen you find a large box on one side that says "Warning frozen product may stick to lips and tongue".

It’s really about people wonting to get rich and the lawyers putting half the money in their pockets. I can’t blame the lawyers as much as the people they represent.

All those stove grate rubber inserts that I have seen have all been the same Andi found them in several rv stores like camping world, la mesa, etc. Yeah, the documentation is a real CYA situation.

I got a dash camera for Christmas ... 6 pages total in the manual. 5 pages of warnings ... 2/3 page for setup and use ... just crazy.

Here is Taxifornia, virtually EVERYTHING has a warning label for Proposition 65 that warns us that EVERYTHING you can buy may, or may contain, something that MAY cause cancer.
This includes my truck. Yes, driving my truck may cause cancer and so may just about anything else you can buy.
Yes folks...it's a VERY dangerous world we live in!

I have no problem if the warnings are all on the first few pages and then I can skip them if I feel comfortable with that product. It's that Atwood put their warnings at the beginning of every paragraph. At least they didn't do it in three languages, all stacked up together one after the other as some other products.

Now about that clothes iron of my wifes that warns not to iron while wearing the clothing.....

Here is a perfect example of why.

We never thought in a million years they would rule against CSX.

We live close to NS main line. A few years ago this is exactly what has to two boys near here. They were crossing RR bridge and got hit. They could have easily jumped off and probably had a few brushes maybe a broken bone or two. A guy that works in my shop had to pick them up. He doesn’t talk about people who got hit by a train much but I know it isn’t pretty.

Anybody remember their first experience with warning labels. Mine was working in a store in the late 60’s/early 70’s and we got in a shipment of lawn darts with a warning not to throw them at people. Obviously, the first thing we did was go out on the loading dock and throw them at each other. Do bb guns warn about putting your eye out now?

Enough warning to satisfy the lawyers and fend off frivolous law suits.

I remember people in Florida trying to get reimbursed for pothole damage. Officials often used "obvious hazard" as a defense. So basically unless you couldn't see it or it was unavoidable you got nothing. I know it's just a pipe dream... but I'd like to see more of this type of logic. There have been lots of instances where I would have liked to see the underside of my vehicle up on a lift but insurance regs wouldn't allow it.

I have never once bought a vehicle without having it put up in the air for me so I can look underneath. If they won't do it I will buy it.

Totally get that.

Mine beef is when it's in the shop for something. Private shops seem to be a bit more lenient. I've never been to a dealership that allowed anybody in the service bay. And with things being the way they are I get it. Too many ways to get sued.

In my opinion a simple "Enter At Your Own Risk" sign should be sufficient to eliminate ALL liability.
