I have direct and the trav'ler hd dish and have been very happy with it over the past 3 years. I tend to park for 6 months during the year and just call direct and give them the zip code I will be and they update my receivers to have the local channels. While on the go, I have the west coast feed and use the DVR to ensure I catch the shows I want to see. Have been very happy with both direct and the winegard trav'ler dish.

We had Direct for almost twenty years but got tired of setting up tripods and fishing for signals. Because of this, we switched to DISH and bought the Tailgater. About five-ten minutes of messing around and boom...done. You can hear the Tailgater whirring as it searches for a satellite.

Of course, you need a clear sky for a signal and in the campgrounds of NH that's not always possible. But when we head south it's usually OK.

Just got a letter from DirecTV thanking us for being a customer since DirecTV's beginning. Free NFL Sunday Ticket Max, or Genie HD DVR, or Showtime free for a year. Now that is customer service.

last year Directv gave us a free year of HBO premium channel service as a thank you. Would have rather had the NFL package!

I just upgraded to the Genie (record 5 shows at once - YEA!!!!) and a mini-Genie (watch DVR recorded shows in another room) for no charge. Yes, I had to commit to two more years of services. I had an order glitch and had to talk to their retention folks to get it straightened out. They were great and after everything was fixed, she asked if there was anything else I needed or bothering me. Being somewhat slow on the uptake, I replied no - you took care of my problem. So she comes back with "how is the price?" to which I answered it is expensive and keeps going up. Well that is what she wanted me to say so she could offer me some discounts! I was given two discounts for a total of $25 off my bill for 12 months. Then she said to be sure and call back when they expire and see what discounts they had available then.

As I said before, I am locked in to DirecTV, but discounts make it more tolerable.

We use DirecTv because of several factors. I don't know much about Dish recently. First, when we were out of our home after the High Park forest Fire, DirecTV let us suspend service even though that was a new account with five receivers. Second, our son works for the Tampa Bay Bucs, and we get NFL Sunday Ticket, so we can see all of their games. Third, we bought our Big Sky before I retired and a lot of times we would pull into the campground in the rain after dark. With the Traveller antenna, we hit a button and in minutes we are watching TV. I think you will find that it's like trucks and floor plans - find which one suits your finances and likes. They are both good choices for the RVer.

Been with Dish for a bunch of years. At first the tech support was burdensome in that if you interrupted the person they started at the beginning of their written check list. After a couple years they either hired quicker thinking people or trained them better. Now it's a simple matter to call them and usually within a couple minutes the issues are solved (at least the issues I've had). Just bought a Tailgater and used it twice so far and am happy with it.

Right now I only have the OTA antenna on my Montana. I'm looking into getting a satilite set up. I'm going to go with the new Winegard GM-2000 carryout G2 and dish network pay as you go plan. I would like to know what is the reason that these antenna's can get Dish network in HD but not Direct TV? Is it the size of the antenna or LMB that doesn't allow you receive the HD signal from Direct TV?. I really like the ease of set up on the G2 and it doesn't take up much room.
My friends have Direct TV and I watch them setup their antenna's on a tripod everytime we camp. They tell me it's real easy but I watch them level the tripod aim the antenna then going in and out of the RV fine tuning for the strongest signal or they have someone in the rv yelling numbers out at them. Some times it goes real easy and other times I've seen them move the antenna around to different spots to get a good signal. I'm hoping the G2 set up is as easy as they advertise as long as you have a clear view of the sky. Just set it up and the antenna does the rest.

We have Direct tv and found that by taking the 2 boxes from the spare room TV's, we can hook one for the LV and other for the bdrm. Sure we only get the local stations when we are in the local receiving areas, but it is better then having two separate accounts. I use a splitter connector on my inputs. A Direct installer made that for me(free). Separate cable to each. We keep the satalite headings in our camping book for reference when stopping. If we don't have the headings, I enter the zip code, see the headings and set the dish outside. Usually takes about 5-10 minutes. I prop the window open so I can hear the beeping from the tv. I have a 50' dual cable (free from the installer) in case I have to find a clear spot. The dual cable lets us see different programs if wanted. Hope this is of help to others.

We have Direct TV and use the Wingard G2 Automatic. It works great. Sometimes we take our DVR receiver from the living room and have DVR also. Usually have to change a few settings on the receiver. We do not get local channels when we are out of area. The price keeps going up. One other complaint I have was when I was in Az I had a problem and when I called Customer Service after going through everything she said she would need to send somebody out to check things out. I told her I was in Az and she said she could not send somebody to the RV park that she could only send somebody to my home address. I told her I see Direct TV service truck all of the time in the park but she would not budge. That was a couple of years ago so things might have changed. The other thing is I do not get my HD channels when using in the RV. Other than that it works well.
