hydraulic pump

Opened up the front compartment to find hydrolic fluid in the catch pan under the hydrolic pump. The unit has been setting for three weeks. Reservoir looks about half full. Where do I start looking on the pump for problems? Is there anything I should be aware of before digging in to the connections? Is this or could it be an expensive problem? Should I let the extended service policy handle it? Guess I should call the dealer service department and ask, huh.

Stiles, I have no experience with this but see you've not yet had a reply. There's another post fairly recently where someone found an o-ring out of place or missing or bad or something. You might try the Search function. I think if you search for "pump" in both subject line and text body in the past 30 days you'll probably find it. Sorry I'm not more help.

What ever you do do not add fluid to it with the sldies out, it will blow out the seals with too much fluid. I would try tighten the hose fittings at the pump since that's where the leak is. Second if theya re not loose than have someone else run the slide out and you watch the pump itseld to see where it leaks. You may have bad seal, usually with pumps of this type it's more than likely loose fitting. That rag before you do anything get up the fluid and take something to clean the oil up to see if it leaks anymore. Hope this helps.

There is a problem with some of these pumps. We are on our 3rd. The pump Manufacturer is aware and has taken steps to correct it. The problem stems from the attachment of the pump to the reservoir. The O Ring seal fails. The last one we got hasn't leaked, so I think we have now gotten the new design. If your out of warranty, you can remove the Res. from the pump and replace the O Ring. Make sure you get the new O Ring being used by the pump Manufacturer. They probably have slightly changed the size of it.

I had the same problem on the first couple trips out with the 3280RL (oil puddled in the catch pan). The fill cap just pops in and does not have a gasket. This allows oil to leak out the top when traveling down rough roads with a full reservoir. I fashioned a rubber gasket for the plug and have had no more leaks. Of course a leaking O ring between the reservoir and pump is another matter all together. I placed an old folded face towel under the reservoir in the catch pan just in case of futher leaks. It acts like a sponge for any spilled oil.

I have had one IRC ( Indevidual Room Control) replaced, and have had a truble free opperation so far, it also was a leaker, and as was stated the "O" Rings have a lot to be desired from Hydra Gear. I seem to think there is reasoning in you must have the valves all the way open or all the way closed, preventing the "O" Rings being pushed by the enormis pressures that is generated by the pump. thats all folks.

Stopped by the local dealer after posting. The Service Mgr. said about the same as Broome101. His suspicion is that the reservoir was over filled while the slides were out and retraction of the slides caused the reservoir to overflow. Clean up and watch was his advice. He was nice enough to take me out to a similar unit to show me where to look for trouble.

Since I am not the original owner, all Keystone warrantees are off. If I need pump replacement, the extended service policy will kick in less a $50 deductible. Whew!!! He said pumps were $300 to $500 plus labor at $87.50 per hour. I figure $600 to $1000, so the cost of the seven year policy will be received in benefits on this one repair. Whew again!!!

Lucky you I glad your extended policy kicked in for you even if you had to ay 100 it still is a good deal.

I responded to your post on the other thread you mentioned the problem rather than continue on this 15 year old thread.

Since you are a fairly new member, it is typically better to start a new thread about a problem rather than add it to the end of an existing thread.
