FOUL SMELL from Hot Water

We are getting a real foul smell when we run hot water in sink or talking a shower.
I emptied the hot water tank last week and flused it out and got alot of particals out of the drain hole.
I change to Rod once a year and it is OK condition.
What have others done to the hot water tank to rid the water smell
Any help will be appreciated
Thanks

carlson, I know you flushed out the water heater, but you may have to do it again and maybe again. I don't know if you leave water in it between trips, but always empty the water before you let the 5er set for very long. To flush out the smell, try using a half cup of bleach in a full tank of your fresh water. Run this thru till all lines smell of bleach, empty out that tank and fill with only fresh water. Run this thru till no more bleach smell and this should rid you of the nasty odor. By the way, this is how I flush the tanks out to dewinterize every year.

it could be the water, depending on where you filled it up.

Carlson, You may be aware of this already but there is a special flushing apparatus they make for attaching to the hose to clean the hot water heater. It's long and bends upward to get the water up into the hot water tank.

Had the same thing in a TT several years ago. Got a bad lot of water with sulfur in it. Took many flushings with the bleach solution mentioned above to correct it. It can be done but just takes some time.

We are in Yuma and had to switch to an Aluminum Annode (sp?)--- that solved the problem for us. Julie

Sven - sorry - did not recognize your name at first --- you definitely need to use the Aluminun annode here in Cocopah -- tried others but the aluminun is the only one that works. Julie

I got some bogus smelling water last year and it took most of the season to get the smell out. Bleach is your friend! I drained my hot water tank 4 times and it still smelled funky for about a month.

My seasonal site is on a well and the smell can get pretty bad if the water sits for awhile. Besides using bleach to clean the system out every few months, I added a whole coach water filter. That also helped with the smell and taste of the water.
