Sounds like a problem we had, and fixed. The shower valve had cracked under the faucet. They are plastic and light duty. Easy to access from the screw on panel (mine was anyway). Found an exact replacement at CW and very easy to replace. I think the only tool needed is a Phillips screwdriver.

Then again- maybe they were just splashing some water a bit. Could possibly get water between the tub and the wall panels.
