Tying down rocker recliners

What is your experience with your rocker recliners? Do you tie them down with the straps provided or just move them away from the walls? I tied mine down on the two hour trip home from the dealer and was horrified to find that the straps had frayed the fabric on the arms and the sides of the recliners. It doesn't look like they would move without being tied down. Not sure what the answer is but what the manufacturer provided does not work!! Looking for suggestions.

Since you didn't tell us what model Monte you have I can only tell you what we do. We turn them back to back and put two long bungie cords together and hook them around the upper section of the rocker/recliner. We don't strap them down to the floor at all. We leave the table between the chairs but put either a movers throw/blanket or a couple of pillows between them and the table. We also try and put a couple throw pillows between the chairs and the outside walls to stop any rubbing!

I preload the two recliners back to back with a heavy towel inbetween ... snug down with the factory straps. We've used the factory straps for over six years with this unit and my old 2005 2980RL and never had any issue with harming the fabric. I do release the straps during long term storage as to not groove the arms. Perhaps you didn't snug down the straps enough or push them together a little before strapping them down.

Same here...strongly recommend that you do secure the chairs prior to moving your Montana.

We also use the straps with a spare sleeping bag rolled length wise along the back wall and one between the chair backs. After arrival we always check their position along with cabinet doors and anything else that could move during travel and block a slide out. On our previous SOB a cabinet door was caught while opening slides. Not a pretty site

Ever since 2004 with our 2980RL and now our 3150RL we put them back to back and tie them down with the factory straps. We put hand towels between the area and the straps to deal with the problem you describe. Don't remember where I picked up that tip, but probably right here on the MOC site.

Back-to-back using the OEM straps connected only to the very back floor loops, and drap a quilt over one and between the backs of both so no rubbing will happen along with pillows between the leg rests and side walls. The most important thing is to observe the chair locations very closely before extending the slides. This observation could save you money as you may need to reposition one or both chairs prior to moving the slides.

I put my chairs back to back and put the table in between them and put the strap around them and have never had any movement or problems.

I have a 2955 RL with my recliners in the back and have never secured tham in any way. They have never moved, not one inch. On my last trip I was nearly standing on the brake pedal going down hill, still no movement.

I put our chairs back to back with the table in between and put a thick blanket over the table and between it and the chair backs. Then use the factory straps.
I was beginning to see some wear on the backs before I started using the blanket. But no wear on the arms or sides.

On my 3585SA, I just put the recliners back to back with the table in the middle. No straps and after 3 summers of traveling no issues.

On our previous Montana, 2004-2980RL and now on our new one, 2012-3100RL we have only put the chairs back to back with the table between them and have never tied them down at all. We have never had any trouble with them moving around or causing any problems.

When we bought our Montana 5 years ago, the dealer supplied 4 small pieces of carpet about 4" X 6" which were placed on the chair arms under the strap. We position the chairs back to back with a small carpet between them at the top. We have never had a problem. No marks on the chair arms. Small pieces of carpet and the mat store easily in the computer desk chair.

Thanks for all the responses. It looks like several options work. We'll give one or two a try have a report in a couple of weeks. Thanks again, Raymond

We do use the straps on our 2011 3400RL. We place a piece of carpet, upside down, on arms and have no signs of wear at this time.

We bought 4 matching washcloths and lay them over the arms and use the straps. I keep the straps close to the back of the chairs. No problems so far.

I must be the only one who puts them front to front, with the table in between, and use the two couch pillows in front of leg rests and the table. Have never tied them down, and have gone over some very rough roads with no problems so far! Never even thought of putting them back to back - will have to experiment!
