Question for Chevy 3500HD SRW SB 4X4 Owners

I'm picking up my 2011 Chevy 3500HD SRW/SB 4X4 tomorrow and have a question about any troubles you might have had regarding the bed height of the 3500 and hooking up your 5er. I've checked the boards and this forum and have not seen any posts concerning bed height and hooking up difficulties, but I still wonder about any problems I might encounter. I know the bed height is higher than my 04 2500HD 2X4 and I'll figure hitch height accordingly. Thanks ahead of time for your input.

You don't mention it, but the recommendation is that the clearance should be a minimum of 6". I hope you knew this and yours is above that.

Many fifth wheel hitch heads have some height adjustment so hopefully this help. While this might raise the front cap of the fifth wheel at the pin, hopefully the rise is not too bad and you still get 6" or more at the tailgate. I have read that the fifth wheel should be either level or a little higher, but not lower. I hope someone else can confirm this and what to expect with your new Chevy. I also don't know how high is too high. The clearance on my bed is over 7" and I do have less than 2 degrees upward slope.

Nevertheless, many congratulations on your new ride!

Tim, will sort of depend on which tire option you're getting. I had a 2005 3500 DRW long box 4x4 and upgraded to a 2011 3500 DRW long box 4x4. Beds were exactly the same height, but the side rails on the 11 are approx 1 1/2 higher. Had close to 8 inches clearance on the 05 and am now down to 6 but didn't change hitch height or anything and Monty ride pretty close to level. But on the Dually I'm limited to the 235/80R 17 Tires. I know this doesn't answer your question, but gives you a little more info. You will love the new features, except the DEF (PITA)

I had an issue with the back edge of the Morryde hitting the bed rails. Then I but in a spacer to raise the hitch about an inch (Trailer Saver TS#). I still ride level and have avoided any further trouble. I have about 6" clearance at the tailgate.

We really like our truck. It does everything we wanted.

Good luck.
