The time has arrived

Life has a way of getting in the way of plans. Sad day, but new beginning. We have decided to sell our Montana. Have had it out one night this year just to make sure everything worked. None last year. And only 3 nights the year before. Paying about $175/month for storage and not using it is too much to keep it.

Maybe get something smaller some day. But probably just hotel stays when we get to travel at all. Still got 500,000 airline miles to use up from my working days.

For anyone planning to sell, I listed it on Facebook marketplace. Got 5 people within 3 days wanting to see it. Showed it to the first today and looks like they will buy without questioning the price. Probably should have listed it as “highest bidder”.

Now to sell the truck. Unfortunately, while this is a great time to sell it as demand and prices are up, it is a terrible time to try to buy a smaller truck.

Anyway, been a great ride. Didn’t get a chance to meet many of you in person, but I sure learned a lot from you. A newbie to a somewhat seasoned veteran in 14 yrs. Here’s wishing nothing but the best to everyone in all your future travels. I will encourage the new owner to join up with MOC.

Bummer Bill! But feel free to stick around. You have a wealth of knowledge to pass on.

Try Facebook Marketplace when you do. I got 9 people wanting it, and 1 flake, in 4 days after posting. First person is buying it pending his bank issuing me a bank check for the full amount on Tuesday.

This feels like a small business going out of business when you are a smart business, you always wonder when you will be next. Good luck to you. I always enjoy your post and hope you will stick around.
If I had to spend $175 a month storage I would probably sell my camper too. Since I don’t and my truck is an 08 I will probably never sell. I enjoy just having my camper if for nothing else than to take a nap in.

Yeah, if I had a place for it at home I would keep it for the occasion we could use it. I have an acre lot. But pie shaped narrow at the front with a lot of trees and no good way to get the trailer to the back wider part.

Can’t complain. It has been great and we loved all the times we did use it. Fortunately we both still have very good health. My wife’s mother’s health started going downhill 7 years ago and my wife wanted to keep her at home as long as possible. But that meant being around to check her almost daily. Then my wife’s brother’s health started down. He moved in with their mother and my wife had to monitor both. She had to move her mother to a nursing home 1 1/2 yrs ago. She is 98! Her brother passed away last year. Those lifted some of her burden. But our daughter and grandson moved in with us a few years ago. He is still a little young to be home by himself. And daughter works full time. Day care not an option.

Didn’t mean to tell my whole story. But just to understand why we are ending it. Maybe in another 3-4 years we might buy a smaller TT as we did enjoy the RV travel. Or just content to do hotels or maybe cabins. We will see. A lot of things we still want to see that a long ways to tow to.

Hope you hang in here. And best wishes on the future. We just sold our complete rig but plan to hang here to keep up and pass on any hints I've learned in a lifetime of repairing appliances and our short experience in the 5r.

I do plan to stay around. Maybe just not as active.

I’ve gone through this so much times in my business. You get to know someone and then you think back. You haven’t heard from then in a while maybe several years and you wonder what happened. Did they just quit dealing with you go out of business or worse. Then someone calls and ask do you remember. That is usually bad news. It’s very sad.

Bill, when we joined back in 2004, we met a lot of the people that were instrumental in starting the MOC and over the years we watched as many have either “retired” from RVing or passed. We used to go to the RV rallies on vacation and watched as the retired group stayed and partied and headed to their next adventure. But, whether family circumstances, health or other, we all will leave the RV life at some point. Hopefully you will be able to enjoy the lifestyle again at some point. Best of luck and keep watching the forum. Many people change to SOB and attend regional rallies. Maybe you will be able to do that down the road.
