Slide Toppers

Good Evening,

I search the forum to the best of my ability and wasn’t able to find what I am looking for. We have a ‘21 3791RD and just had slide toppers put on...except for dining room slide out. We were told no topper can be put on because of awning..I get it the arm hardware does extend out past slide. However, is there a “fix” or another option for that slide? Thanks I’m advance.

You are correct, the awning brackets interfere with the normal placement of the slide topper brackets. However, it can be done; I did it. You will have to do it yourself or find an installer that is willing to think a little harder.

I'll try to find some photos.

Here you go. The first photo shows my slide topper on the slide with an awning; in my case the kitchen slide, in your case the dining slide. The second photo shows how the slide topper brackets are designed to be installed. Note they are inside the flange so there will be backing to screw them into. They cannot be screwed into the flange; will not hold. The third and fourth photos shows how I put them on. I simply drilled additional holes in the slide mounting brackets to attach them to the solid part of the slide. Since the slide brackets sit on top of the flange, I used spacers between the bracket and the slide (inside the flange) to account for that space. I have the same amount of fasteners on these modified brackets, just in a little different place. These toppers have been on for over two years, two cross-country trips and a trip to Alaska; no problems.

If Keystone would have put the awning a couple inches lower, it would not interfere with the slide topper brackets. In my case, they could not because of the refer vent, but I don't think there is any reason they could not have lowered it a little on a dining slide. Guess that is water under the bridge.

Thank you for the photos...now since we are not that handy, I will have to find someone to do this. If you don't mind, what slide topper did you get? It looks the same as the ones I just had installed however the hardware looks different.

Is the 2021 3791RD that different from the 2019? Ours has slide toppers on all 5 slides from the factory. The topper doesn't interfere with the awning, but there is a gap between the two that will get you very wet when it's raining.
