2003-2006 Ford
How many of you 2003/2006 “Ford” owners have a (EDGE JUICE PLATINUM) plug-in module / in-cab controller in your rig, and is anyone having any problems with it? I’m looking at getting the new
A2 that will work with any edge juice module and has the award-winning Tom-Tom GPS software and maps of the entire U.S. preloaded with Canadian maps available. Touch screen gauges display, and over 20 different parameters available for viewing. Adjust power levels on-the-fly and displays horsepower, torque, 0-60 and quarter mile times, and displays and clears check engine codes. Coming soon is a wireless backup camera option so you can see what’s behind you as well as where you are going.

Too overpriced in my opinion. And Edge had a bad reputation on TDS for blowing head gaskets and puking coolant out the overflow tank. The extra gauges and touch screen would cool but I don't think I would use it as a power adding device much if at all while towing.

I am pretty heavy load when fully loaded and have not seen the need for anymore power other than stock.

I do not see a need for it because the F350 with 4.10 rear end has more power than I need. It is also a little over priced and would take a long time ( if ever ) for a pay back even at the present price of gas. Just my feeling.

I’m trying to get feed back on the edge product line from someone that has it; the new A2 with back-up wireless camera is what I’m looking at. It also has GPS. For the safety issues when backing, and checking what’s behind on the road and the GPS not as much as for the power, but that would be a nice extra feature. For the price you get the Camera, GPS by TOM TOM with preloaded U.S. maps and the power. It’s about the same price when you add it all together. As well as getting the back-up camera and GPS.

I guess in this situation you'd just have to weigh eye candy verses price tag. I bought the Superchips 1705 tuner for my 00 Powerstroke about 2 yrs ago for @$300 ... once I programmed it to Stage 1, I've never messed with it again. In big red letters in the manual it states not to tow anything heavier than 6K above Stage 1 which is a 70 HP boost. I figured that was in there for a reason. There is noticable extra towing capability and the option of reading check engine codes comes in handy. A friend with one of the earlier Edge products has towed in the higher stages and reports a noticeable soot deposit on the fiver from the exhaust. Gauge wise, I don't know what is stock on the 06 Ford diesels that the Edge Platinum can directly hook into, but pyro and boost gauges are a must with a chipped engine. These can be installed in an afternoon for around $200-$250 pillar mount included. I believe you'll find the ability to change power settings on the fly is pretty useless related to pulling your fiver although it does sound awesome. I drive empty programmed in Stage 1 with similar economy to stock.
As far as wireless backup cameras, one of the few that actually work in my opinion is the HitchAid product (hitchaid.com)that goes for around $500. There are cheaper out there, but viewing a 3.5" to 5" screen is challenging ... for me anyhow and transmission distances are relatively short when placed inside an RV. Stepping down off the soap box for now, but you asked for some hands on chip feedback even if it wasn't the Edge product.

We've put 50k miles on this 2005 PowerStroke, at least 15k of that towing a Montana scaling at 14,360 lbs. We have been up and down all kinds of mountains roads and I see no need whatsoever for more power than this truck provides. If you'd like to add more, go for it, but to me it's kind of like is it better to buy a car that will do 150 mph or 120 mph when the max speed limit anywhere is 75? Just my opinion.
