Winter Gig

We have been accepted at Big Bend National Park,in Texas. We have been questioning anyone that has been there. Can anyone tell us what they know about the weather in the winter. We've been told there is a migration of exotic birds? One lady said that there is alligators and big Snakes, also large cock roaches that fly? She said its very humid there? Others say its beautiful there and that we will just love it? So we are hoping that maybe some of you have input about the Park? Randye

Randye,
Y'all need to talk polite now when you get to Texas. We call them thar flying things, "Water Bugs, or Palmetto Bugs!" Sounds a lot better, don't ya think?

Randye, Get the info from the horses mouth. Here is the number for the park (432) 477-2251 , call and talk with the rangers. We were there last year mid to late February. Weather was nice, no bugs to speak of. We stayed out on the south west side of the park in Tralingua (sp). We saw no snakes, but heard that the full hookup campground in the park has its own resident Bobcat. Fantastic scenery through out the park, and around it as well. Enjoy your stay.

Well sir, that is one of my most favorite places, it will get hot as all get out in the summer, winters are generally not too bad, however it has been known to get real cold there on occasion, dont live real far from there and go fairly often, summer and winter, has always been a good trip time. As for as critters, you are in their habitat, and there are many different kinds of'em there. Never have felt threatened. Just be aware of your sorroundings, and you will really enjoy your time there in a most awesome part of the country. What a great choice.
