wrap-around step carpeting

I was just looking at the step carpeting on the camping world site. If you have these on your camper do you like them? Do they last a few years or do they sun rot quickly? So far I can't get my puppy to walk on the steps but with carpeting I might have better luck!! It's hard to get a good look at the colors these come in so what looks good on YOUR Monty------burgundy, green, teal? Maybe something else? We still have not had our 3400RL out for the big maiden voyage but we're going to have to give it a try before we had south next winter!! Thanks for any input. I really enjoy spending time at this site!

We have the wrap around step carpeting in black. We really like it and I think it keeps us from slipping on the steps, especially when they're wet. The carpet is out of the sunlight when you're traveling or otherwise have the steps folded up so that will help with sunrot. Greta, our four legged friend, doesn't might using the steps with the carpet on them.

mfoss,

We too have the wrap around carpet and are happy with it.

One of the big concerns I had was the thought of our Pup sliping or getting a nail caught. He seems much more relaxed going up and down now.

Happy camping

WE have the carpeting in blue. We like it for a lot of reasons. It keeps the dirt out a little bit from the trailer and also the dog likes it to get in and out. He is a little poodle and just jumps up into the trailer. I think without that he might catch his toes on the step.

We also have the wrap around on our three steps ( black ) it does help to knock off most of the unwanted stuff off the shoes if you dont get it all off.

We have the wrap around carpet on our steps also, in green. We like it because it is one more place to knock off the dirt on our shoes. We have had it on now for a year and a half and it is still in pretty good shape.

We do also. Our lab has been having troubles with the steps. He's gotten caught a couple of times. He now tries to jump straight to the top step.

Since this is our 3rd 5er, we are on our 3rd set. The first set wore out after about 7 or 8 years. When we traded the 2nd unit for the Monty, we didn't bother swapping. This time we bought the wider ones and really like them. The first set wore underneath, springs broke, more than sunrot. We have the Burgundy color because our carpet in the Merlot. But we still have the blue patio rugs we had with the other unit but both look good with the Monty graphics. When our little guy was alive I'm sure he would have gotten caught in the steps without the rugs.

After reading the various posts here we're going to get the step covers. Our little dogs do sort of slip and slide on the metal stuff. Should help with them plus look a little nicer and help keep the rig a little cleaner. Thanks for all the good posts.

We had the blue ones in our old 5th wheel for 4 yrs. We were going to put them on the Monty but decited to it deserved new ones. We went with the blue again because our patio carpet is blue. The Montana would look good in any of the colors. I like the wide ones but the reg. size is nice too.

We were just thinking the same thing. We're now in easy driving distance of a CW so will get these. Vicki's wanted them for awhile and this thread has convinced us we should do this.

We also have the black wrap arounds - sure does help in collecting dirt from human and pet feet resulting in a cleaner Monty floor. Also think it does help in preventing slips and spills when it is raining. We have had ours for a year now and don't really notice any wear to speak of -they are holding up good.

OK, all you folks using this step carpet stuff

DO your steps still go up in the correct postion, any difficulties, etc?? Al wants to know! Do they ever "pop" open when you are traveling cause of the extra thickness of this carpet stuff??

Carol - Steps work normally. Carpet is not very thick to present a problem.

We have had ours on for almost a year now and have no problem with the steps folding in or staying in. Like vickster said it isn't that thick.

I just got back from a run to Camping World. I didn't get the step covers yet. I needed Vicki's advice on that. They have three different lengths, 20", 21", 23". Our steps are 23 3/4" wide but the raised part of the step is 21 1/2" wide. Which size did you all get? Does yours go nearly to the edge of the step or stop before passing the raised part? I'm not sure they had three in the color we want in all three of those sizes.
Thanks.

Have them, the steps work normally, easy to clean and keep clean, protects the inside carpeted areas, need to remove them from time to time to check for and treat any corrosion. When used in connection with a rollup ground carpet, seldom is dirt tracked into the unit. Didn't measure, but ours are wide. The commercially fabricated ones use a thin but sturdy outdoor grade carpet.

Got to add my two cents worth. We have purchased the covers from a dealer in the past, but, I figured I could make them myself! I went to Lowes and bought discounted outdoor carpet and a grommet kit The first set went with the other Monty when we traded, I made those too. This piece of carpet was on sale for $10, size 3ft by 7ft, and also got an extra 15% off that day. I cut them the same size as the storebought and put in the grommets and attach them with plastic ties. There is enough carpet left to do 2 more sets of covers. I have about what it costs for 1 cover in 9 covers.

Emmel,

Great idea, have you had any fraying on the cut edges of your selfmade covers??
