Bed Rail Height Question
Would like to know what other Chevy Silverado 2500HD 4x4 CC SB with Pullright 16K slider hitch are getting for bed rail clearance. Our truck is a 2004.5 D/A. The Montana will be a 2955RL. Any advice and all information will be appreciated.

I have never actually measured the actual clearance but here is a picture of ours...
As you can see there is plenty of room.

I have never measured it either, but I can lean over the bed rails between the truck and coach with my upper body while the coach hooked. You will really enjoy the Superglide, in my opinion worth every penny. If you would like you can click on my log on name and it will bring up my profile. I have a pic there of my truck and coach.

I would like to know the same but with an F-250 in the mix. I was just measuring mine after pulling it out of the back yard to leave for a few days tomorrow, and found it to be at 6 inches. That seems a little on the slim side to me. I know I could drop the pin box one more slot.

I agree with Glenn & Montana Sky, clearance is no problem, lots of room.

"Conventional Wisdom" seems to be that 5 1/2 inches is the minimum acceptable. But that seems a "little on the slim side to me", to use your words, Wordsmith. Mine is at 7 1/2 inches and that's comfortable for me. Same Montana on our '99 F350 4x2 had 9 inches clearance. That was a luxury. J.D., I'd recommend you drop that pinbox another notch unless the superglide has height adjustments that are easier than moving the pinbox.
By the way, I once came up with a "brilliant" idea for one-man adjustment of the pinbox. I thought I'd just hook up the Montana (our first Montana) to the truck so the hitch would hold that end in place. Then I'd just remove the pinbox bolts, lower the box and slide in the bolts again. I didn't think about the pinbox traveling in an arc with the pin at the centerpoint. Makes it rather difficult to align the pinbox holes with the pinbox mount's holes.

Yep, Steve, that was what I was thinking too. Will dropping it that one slot give me about an inch or more? Additionally, I was looking at the pinbox the other day, and noticed that the wires for the breakaway box there are coming through one of the empty holes in the pinbox. Will I need to disconnect them?

I didn't have to disconnect anything. I ended up getting help holding the box while moving it to the next set of holes. So it wasn't moving far enough to worry about. I'd recommend a second guy to help you with this. That pinbox is surprisingly heavy (and awkward), especially at the angles you'll be working. Two people can handle it easily.

Wordsmith,
I just dropped my pin box last weekend. My break-away switch was wired through one of the holes like yours. I just untwisted the wirenuts in the junction box and re-routed the wires. I also took the opportunity to repaint the pin box while it was off.

Bob,
I have a 2005 HD Chev D/A with the Pullrite. I have a 3500RL, however I have installed the Mor/ryde pin box. The clearance is 6 1/2 inches from the top of the bed to the bottom of the 5th.

Ken, thanks for the tip! Re-routing the wires is a smart move!

Wordsmith, I missed your question about how much clearance you'll gain by dropping the pinbox one hole. On ours, the holes are roughly an inch apart. So I would expect roughly that much gain. If you don't think it would cause the coach to be nose high when towing, you could even move it two holes.
RKassl, sorry we hijacked your thread.

Thanks guys. I knew about raising the hitch but not about the pin box adjustment.
