Question on Forums VS Email Servers

I would like to hear some opinions from the members here regarding the use of forums (like this one) versus strictly email servers (such as Yahoo Groups).

Which do you like better? Why? Other comments?

BTW - this question has nothing to do with the current forum here, or its future! I am doing research for another club I belong to, we are looking at alternatives to Yahoo Groups, and meeting some resistance from those who favor strictly email based list servers....

Thanks for your input!

Actually this is a good place to ask this question. If I recall the MOC actually started on Yahoo. Maybe some of the MOC elders will enlighten us.

Just a couple years ago I belonged to a number of Yahoo fishing groups and a number of fishing forums. Over the years I dumped all the email based. There were many reasons I just didn't care for them. In my opinion, the forum concept such as the MOC, RV.NET, RVUSA, etc are considerably better.

But than again, this question is much like "What's the best TV?". The answers typically favor the one we own/use. Seeing as you asked this on a forum most replys will be in favor of forums.

I belong to a Yahoo group related to business with responses needed in a timely fashion. Unfortunately, Yahoo can get pretty crazy with answers before we get the questions, delays of up to 8 hours, and sometimes no questions or answers sent through for hours. I would not recommend using them.

I hadn't even thought of that! It would be like asking a fisherman at a lake or stream - the answer most likely would be slanted their way!

I'm wondering if we will get any responses like "I really prefer email, but this forum is so good, I'm willing to go along with it in this format"
