Secret Place

We brought our Monty home yesterday. Towes beautifully. Sure saw the old fulel guage go down though. Has enybody with the 3400 with the 2005 layout noticed the secret place above the window in the bedroom? There is a hole in the wood on top, lift up and there is a neat little area there.

Gene,
There's a second "secret place" there too. The molding on the right side of the wooden lamberkin (sp?) is hinged. Inside there are a couple of cup hooks for keys, etc. We had ours a month before we found it. Congrats on the new rig!

Are these secret places new in the 2005 models or should we be looking for some, too

Now you've gone and done it!! Now everybody knows about "the secret place." If everybody knows where "the secret place" is...is it still "the secret place" or do we have to rename it?

Why can't I find any secret place in my 2005 3400??????? None in the bedroom windows, either the one next to the bed, or the one over the "dresser drawers". In fact there are no laberkins in the bedroom at all.

OK Call me stoopid. What's a lamberkin? We have a 2004 3685FL? Are there any "secret places" I might be able to find in it? I LOVE an adventure.

Per my dictionary a "lambrequin', pronounced just the way we would all spell it, is "a short piece of drapery ornamenting the top of a window". Don't have any "not secret now" places in our Monty. Darn! Just think of the fun we could have had. Wonder if other models have secret places elsewhere that we haven't discovered? Wonder if it is just the guy who did Gene's who had fun leaving behind his own little mark (like the stone carvers in the British cathedrals who carved personal messages in their stone work)? We love a mystery too!

Nope wasn't just the guy who worked on Gene's unit. When we went to the Tampa RV show we were shown these "secret places" by the Montana Rep. This is something new they have added to the new models.

Wow! I can't wait to check ours to see if there are these secret little places. Ours is a 2005, but built in Nov 04. I will bet this is something new they have added to those built after January 2005.

Ode to a Secret Place

Once I had a secret place
That lived within the heart of me.

All too soon that secret place
Became impatient to be free.

Then I told a little forum
The way that owner's often do.

Just exactly where you are
And how to look inside of you.

Then I shouted from the highest hill,
Even told a golden daffodil.

And now my rig's an open door
And my secret place is no secret any more.

Wonderful Stiles!
Our 2980RL was completed the day before Thanksgiving, Nov '04. God, I hope they didn't rush to finish it on time! The difference between the floor model at the Pomona CA RV show and ours included losing the over-window storage in the bedroom (passenger side)and the fabric lamberkin. It was replaced with a wooden unit that surrounds the window on 3 sides (top, right, left). As described by others, there is an inset box in the top with lift out wooden cover that has a slot in the middle. The wooden portion on the right side of the window (looking at it from the inside of the trailer) is hinged on the inside (left) side. It closes so well that it's un-noticeable. If your new rig was one that was made with the new washer hook-up in the bedroom, it probably has the window modifications. If your rig does not have the washer hook-up in the bedroom, my guess is that you also have the fabric curtains, not the wood treatment.

Although we have thought that our Monty has been in some "Secret Place" for the past eight weeks, it wandered into Houston yesterday. We did manage to get a short look at it this morning and were surprised to see some of the changes that have been made. The biggest eye catcher was the corner curio cabinet is gone and in its place is a cabinet about 15x30x30". Ours does have the secret place in the bedroom, but I did not take time to find the other one. Can't wait to get our hands on the Monty!!!!!!
