Montana now has the option to add a third AC. We were in Florida during 100 degree weather and ours did fine with two A/C’s. We have our 4th Montana on order. We have had good luck with the brand and this forum has some of the best people. Good luck with your search.

Rowdy,

Welcome to the forum!

I believe you will get mixed answers to your question. Personally my 35 ft rig with 2 15K BTU a/c units handle AZ heat up to 105 well. You will find several folks that have added a third unit to get more cooling. As I am sure you know our dry heat is much easier to cool than your more humid LA.

thanks for the help. and yes my current rig struggles with la heat. but im hoping it is because it is 17 years old. just wondering if new rigs do a better job at cooling.

We kept it in the 70’s. If you can keep 20 degrees under ambient you’re doing good. The important thing for us was to get a good night’s sleep.

Ours is an older Montana (2007) and shorter (34’), but our 15 K and 13.5 K A/Cs have kept it comfortable in 100+ temps.

Our first trip in our Montana was to Lake Havasu. The two A/C units can handle the 120 degree heat just fine. I doubt you'd need the 3rd unit, unless you're a polar bear.

it's probably a truth here, what I'm going to say ... Your 17 year air conditioner is probably better at cooling and running better than anything brand new.

You need at least 2 air conditioners, and your camper will need 50 amp service. Gone are the days of 30 amp service only.

I have two A/C’s 38’ long interior w/ 5 slides, and to put it bluntly, ours stink. I’ve spent days fixing the collapsed duct work, sealed and trimmed all the vents, and when it is 96-100 degrees, ours only goes down to 81 degrees. All of our older campers would freeze you out. It’s no big deal to us, but they should do better. Anything our size should have 3 AC units. Regardless, it’ll never shut off

We have a 2019 3130re. 2 AC units. We were in Austin TX in 104°F daytime temperatures for a week. NO SHADE.
Ours performed perfectly. We were very comfortable 78°F inside.

Our unit in AZ heat was hot. It can handle the 110 degrees but not the direct sunlight. Windows and their aluminum frames transmit heat such that the ac's can't keep up. The walls are also excessively warm. Shade makes all the difference.

Hi,
We have a 2019 Montana HC 331rl. around 39ft long. 2- 15k units
--AC is a HUGE HUGE HUGE make or break for us since we only travel to hot places. We live in the SE Carolinas where HOT and Humid is our middle names.

Thank GOD we have a dump ac in our bedroom.

The new whisper quite junk they switched to is well 'junk'. They listened to complaints about the noise ??? The problems are in the duct work. I do not believe they have 'dumps" anymore n new rigs. At least I have not seen any New Montana's that do. So, look for that in the master.

My husband spent hours fixing, pushing and securing the duct work inside the vents leading in the cabin area. AND he made and attached cones to force and redirect air coming down in the kitchen vents.
Make sure your dealer turns that AC on at full blast...if you have to search to feeeeel the air, tell them to fix it. You should be able to feel full blasts of air coming out of all vents. Should not feel like a trickle of air either.

Any rig over 26 feet long needs 2 AC maybe 3.

*coleman mac ac is junk---seems to be what Montana is using these day. Dominic is better manufacture. So LOOK at that too.

.

Our larger Montana has three AC's and they work very well together. The third one is not tied to the ductwork and all three are rigged to run at the same time.

Why is anyone talking air conditioning with this winter storm blasting through?
We should be talking sail switches

Because we've been in the mid 80s all week.
Haven't stayed North now in over 10 years.

We were in or near 80 all last week, but now we're expecting 0 for the low on Sunday night, then a cold week and back in the 60's by Friday.
