Generator heat

Second owner of our 2017 Montana. At purchase, I had Camping World install a 5500 watt Cummins/Onen generator. They fully enclosed the top and sides with aluminum sheet metal. Had to run it for 8 hrs/day recently and the heat build up was so incredible we could feel it on the bedroom floor. My only solution was to leave the cargo hatch door open as well as the door for the battery access as it too was very hot. As a side note, when they installed the gen set, it is situated so a section of the trailer frame blocks the access to the oil filter. Rather than deal with Camping World, I had a machine shop notch the frame to give me access to the filter. Any similar experiences?

Not at all! The firewall is standard installation practice and required however the bottom (for lack of a better word) perforated flooring in the gen compartment is removed as this is the location of the Onan air intake. Before getting solar we ran ours all day without any issue with excessive heat. Also the installation requires a bed that essentially lifts the genset up so shouldn’t be any issue with accessing the oil filter. Check to make sure CW installed properly but I guess it’s really too late anyway.
