Hello all. Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Shaun and I just recently retired from the Navy Submarine Force after 31 years of active duty and settled in New Hampshire. I'm married to my wonderful wife Candi and we have 3 children and a Saint Bernard named Moose (230 pounds). I've had travel trailers and a previous 5th wheel but just picked up a new 2018 Montana High Country 362RD and have been busy getting ready for the spring. After so many years of active duty, I'm just trying to learn to relax and spend time with the family camping. I've enjoyed looking around the site and learning from all of you - lots of experience. I love to tinker and modify everything so I'm currently driving my wife nuts with upgrading the 5th wheeler (she doesn't understand how something new would require upgrades) Looking forward to continue to learn from everyone. Thanks!!!

Shaun,

Welcome to the forum! Several retired sailors here. Ask lots of questions, we all learn from them.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

I want to thank everyone for the warm welcome. I'm already using some of this hard earned wisdom on my rig. Thank you all and I look forward to continue to learn.

Welcome aboard sailor! I was a Corpsman for four years and then went to the Army and eventually retired. Over the years I have learned so much here that saved my bacon many times. Enjoy the company!

Hello Shaun .. Just took our new 362RD out for the first time. Things went fair. Couple small leaks, auto-level locked up, and the beverage cooler in the outside kitchen froze up and quit working. But, in this day in time, that was to be expected. I was really amazed on how loud the master bedroom A/C was. Can’t even hear the TV. That was the only thing we didn’t like on our other SOB fiver. And still haven’t figured out both thermostats. But it’ll take time. You guys use your outside fridge or that beverage cooler any?

Welcome Shaun and Candi. I'm sure your time flew as mine did in the Canadian Air Force. Enjoy retirement and your new Montana.

I only use the bedroom AC on dump when cooling down quickly. Then it goes to ducted ~ much quieter. If not really hot it is nice to run it only during the day and the living room unit at night. The bigger unit is also quieter. Rarely need both but if I order again it will have 2 of the whisper units.

Hey Shaun and Candi. We too are retired and brand new to camping this way. Just purchased a 331RL and haven't even taken it out yet. 2 more weeks for our first venture. I wanted to mention (and I'm sure you know this), that being a veteran you can stay and camp at any base! We just did that with our Air Force son in law and daughter. Dan and I are so jealous. All the best.

Unless things have changed there are a few ways to camp on base:
Active military
Retired military
100% disabled veteran
Sponsored by an active duty member

Any changes I have not yet heard of.
