Ford 6.7l MPG Improvement devices

We have new (5k miles) F-350 to tow our 3730FL. I have been seeing a lot of ads about mpg improving electronic devices, some wired into truck electronics with jumpers, other which plug into OBDII. Any experience with these or similar devices, and do they void the warranty?

Ok I assume the truck is new what with only 5000 miles on it. We also need to know if it is a gas or diesel? But if you alter the fuel system you are going to void the warranty. I don't know the weight of your rig but you are not going to get great mileage pulling a 5th wheel rig arround.

I have a 2015 3582 RL and the best I can get towing is about 10 MPG. We all have our little ways when dealing with this. I for one budget all my trips at 8 MPG and $3.25 per gallon of diesel. So when I get home I always have money left over.

Another way I think about it is between the truck and 5er I have over $100,000. Invested and I just am not going to worry about the cost of fuel to RV parks.

My F350 is also still under warranty and I WILL NOT alter it until the warranty has expired. After that, watch out, I already have plans for the good stuff!

What you are talking about is a tuner. I have an 08 6.4 with a Spartan tuner. To answer your question you will without question get better fuel mileage. How much is the question. Try maybe one MPG. You have probably heard 3 or 4. That is BS. Will you loose your warranty, that depends on your dealer. They fill out the paperwork when you have your truck serviced. If they are mod friendly you are OK if not loose your warranty.
The real question is should you tune your truck. That’s up to you. I don’t know that I would tune a 6.7. I wouldn’t drive my 6.4 without a tuner. It is a different truck tuned. Much more responsive the transmission shifts better and over 600 HP. It WILL pull a camper. I can find no down side. Your 6.7 is a far different animal. Everything that my tuner helped has been improved in the 6.7.
I think Sparten still makes the best tuner. Google them.

Ford is real picky about their warranty. If they find you have altered the stock vehicle (and the on-board computer remembers programming changes unlike earlier models) the warranty goes away if they feel the mod interacted with the failure.

You appear to live in CA where the bi-annual SMOG check program is another inhibitor to mods. The 6.7 is great as it is. Why tempt fate?

My Ford 6.7 pulls my 3721RL great, its like its not even back there. I would not even think about trying run a tuner.

I have 70,000 miles on my 2012, and no serious issues. I have learned from the past that these newer rigs are built to run the way they are when you buy them. The old 7.3 6.0 6.4 were quite a bit more tolerant of messing with. These new 6.7’s not so much.
I recently started using Lucas injector cleaner and fuel treatment, I used to get around 370-80 to before I filled up and now get 410-422....🤷*♂️ If they get rid of the mandatory bio-diesel it should get even better.

The older 6.0 was great. Joy filled with gas down in Florida. Pumps were different color at some stations. Other than run real crappy, she did not destroy the 6.0 diesel. A nearby shop drained tank and replaced fuel filter. All was good. Later our local mech said if it was the 6.4, it would have ruined it. These new 6.7 diesels are monster pulling machines. No need to tune and chance voiding the warranty.

I would not consider a mod - even my 12 6.7 is a beast with reasonable MPG.

How does your SRW do pulling the 3791RD? I have a 2015 F350 SRW and am getting a new 3791RD soon. Just curious.

Actually, I haven't pulled it yet because we pick it up on Tuesday 10/31. If not for the fact that we are full timers and the f350 is the daily driver (wife dislikes dually) I would have a dually. That said, I am confidant the SRW will be fine. I am a retired trucker and drove many tractor/tanker rigs with SRW on tractor and trailer without problems. I am sure I will be within legal weight limits to include the pin weight which can also be adjusted by using the huge rear under-den storage.

Also in some states you can not trade your truck in to a dealer if the def, dpr and scr have been removed. it will force you to ether keep the stock system to put back on or private sale only. Just a thought.

I have had all the type diesel motors F250 has put in their trucks over the last 30 years and added a lot of after market gadgets to get power and mileage. Now driving a 2015 F250 with the 6.7 diesel. Do not change a thing, the truck is a beast.

Boy Howdy ... livin west of the Mississippi and not quite next to the ocean just keeps getting more and more beneficial even if it is rather flat and occasionally boring. Regional boys buy up these trucks near as fast as you can list them.
Like mentioned earlier ... you'll get more power with a tuner, but one or two MPG is all you'll gain if that is your goal. The guys that say they picked up 4-5 MPG are smoking Peyote.

I will agree, my buddy has a 2014 ram and he changed out the EPA crap and did not keep the old system. ram had a recall for the scr system to be replaced and he is SOL and now he wants to upgrade to a new truck and he cant trade it in.

i would think keep it until you have problems out of warranty and then change but don't throw out the stock setup in case you want to sell the truck.

your warranty will be shot with a tuner even if you delete it back to stock for service the CPM will still have it registered as changed. I drove a 2016 Ram deleted and tuned what a difference in power and response. on the Ram forum there has been talk about how some state troopers are pulling over truck that are deleted and citing them creating a nightmare for the owners since the DEF system is federal and not a state thing. might want to walk over to some Ford forum's and check those out. good luck.

Spartan says Ford can’t decect their tuner. When I first put my tuner my truck was in the shop and I ask the tech to see if he could defect my tuner and he couldn’t. He may have been able to have dug deeper and found it. He said it didn’t matter he would be the person that told Ford there was a tuner on the truck. He had only told Ford once because a customer got “smart assed” with him. He drove the truck and liked the tuner. He really liked it when he smoked the tires at almost 50 MPH.
