Good Sam insurance

Has anyone had to use there Good Sam insurance ? I had a young man run a stop sign where I hit him on the rear quarter panel, it ruined the front bumper on my 2014 ram 2500 HD, the insurance company said they would pay for used or remanufactured parts form a business they specified, needless to say that business is a wrecking yard, I was lucky enough to get a good repair facility and they used oem parts, I will be looking for an new insurance company now.http://montanaadministrator.forumco....icon_mi_13.gif

You're saying you had Good Sam and that's what they did? If so, we know were the low prices are coming from.

Unfortunately, most insurance companies use re manufactured or seconds as their replacement parts. New OEM parts are only used when the "cheaper" version is not available. When you do find insurance, be sure to ask or read the fine print.

If the "young man" ran a stop sign, why is your insurance repairing your truck instead of his liability insurance repairing it?

Good question.
I only have Good Sam for my roadside assistance. I use USAA for all my vehicles, Montana and stick house.

To webefulltime, he admitted it was his fault, but no witnesses then he changed his story to his insurance company.

Unfortunate. The police should have been able to assess liability, even without witnesses. With regards to the bumper, most re-chrome or remanufactured bumpers have a lifetime warranty, which is better than the OEM part.

Most, perhaps all, auto insurance companies use 're-manufactured' parts if they are available. Otherwise insurance would cost you about 1/3 more per year than you currently pay. I do believe that in most states you do have the right to select who does the work and inspect any replacement parts.

It is a normal practice. You must have missed that when you read your policy.

Everyone on this forum is old enough to know that ANY insurance is only as good as the person that you buy it from !! Know your agent, and have their office and personal phone numbers in your pocket. If they don't give these numbers out, you have the wrong agent.
This saved our Alaska trip last summer, and made my insurance look REAL cheap.

That's very much standard practice. Something has to give when we all demand low rates.

The days of telling someone "I have been with the same insurance agent for 30 year" should be over. There are huge differences in prices out there and it pays to shop it out every year or two.

We shop around for all of our insurance every two years. The Agent has nothing to do with your insurance except selling it to you. We buy insurance from the Insurance Company not the Agent. The agent is a broker and may handle many companies.
