MOC (MOAK) or MOC (MACH)

A group of Montana Owners Club members were sitting around the campfire last week at happy hour discussing the pronunciation of MOC (short for Montana Owners Club).

Most of us pronounced it "Mach", but there was a couple that pronounced it Moak with a long O. Their reason to pronounce it "Moak" is that the Owners is pronounced with a long O and therefore MOC should be "Moak" and not be pronounced "Mach".

So if this makes any sense to you at all, which way do you think it should be pronounced, Moak or Mach?

I use Moak (or moke).... for the vowel sound of the O abbreviation in Owners as mentioned above. When talking to others (especially non-MOCers) this is easier to explain than belonging to a "mock" forum (you spell it "Mach", I hear "Mock").

I prefer not to mock the MOC. I will also use "em, oh, see" (again, the long vowel sound).

Majority aside, this is my opinion and matter of practice only...

I have always used M O C (em, oh, see) and we are all MOCers (em, oh, see errs). I never did like being MOCKed.
The definition of MOCK..
–verb (used with object)
1. to attack or treat with ridicule, contempt, or derision.
2. to ridicule by mimicry of action or speech; mimic derisively.
3. to mimic, imitate, or counterfeit.
4. to challenge; defy: His actions mock convention.
5. to deceive, delude, or disappoint.

–verb (used without object)
6. to use ridicule or derision; scoff; jeer (often fol. by at).

–noun 7. a contemptuous or derisive imitative action or speech; mockery or derision.
8. something mocked or derided; an object of derision.
9. an imitation; counterfeit; fake.

And a MOAK is a mook (mook- long O)
n. Slang
An insignificant or contemptible person.

For me we all belong to the M O C and we are all M O C ers

M -- O -- C

spelled out, EM OOOOOOO SEE

Like Glenn!

To me it is NOT a word, they are initials, to be spoken one, then another, then another.

Melv & I have always called it the "em oh see" or Mach. I do however like the "mocing birds" idea too.
