Has anyone that Ford is coming with a new Diesel Engine in the next couple of years. Don't know if I heard that somewhere or just dreamed it.

6.7L scorpion engine is due out possibly 2010. Higher HP and torque (i think 750) and meets emission requirements. Probably will have the urea injection on it to meet new standards. Duramax will supposedly have the urea injection also.

Latest I've heard.

When will they ever learn!

They have a great engine in the 7.3, rather tweaking it and making it better, they make a new one...the 6.0. Lots of problems, so rather than fixing it, they make another one...the 6.4. More problems, so rather than fixing it, they will come out with another new one????

All of the big three could learn a lot from Honda and Toyota...make a good model and stick with it, make it better and better rather than building a new one every few years...have they heard of the Accord and Camry??

The 7.3 last built in 2002 would not meet the 2003 EPA emission standards and the 6.0 with EGR and advanced turbo was rushed to market by Navistar and bought by Ford. In 2007 the 6.0 with a bad reputation from 03 and early 04s was dropped. Then there were new emission standards for 08 and 09 the 6.4 was introduced in 08. Now for 2010 even tougher EPA emission requirements. Ford and Navistar parted company and Ford designed a new 6.7 diesel engine with urea injection. It is building the 6.7 Scorpion engine in Mexico I believe in a brand new plant. No more Navistar. The 6.0 engine damaged the Ford reputation as the leading tow vehicle. The 6.4 has been a good motor. They had some radiator issues that was solved with a 5 dollar fix and all new trucks got the fix and earlier ones recalled and fixed. BTW Navistar will continue with the 6.4 diesel for use in school buses and small trucks with addition of urea and more EGR.

The EPA standards, although needed, reak havoc with the motor makers. How "New " can a diesel motor be. Everyone makes a diesel motor. It will look and perform just like all the others. I have occasion to drive from time to time a Ford 7.3 Diesel motor and this 6.4L outperforms it in every catogory..including MPG. We have had 4 Accords..fine cars, great MPG..but they can't pull much...

Good explanation, kmh. Additionally, the Scorpian will be Ford designed and built. Remember the Dodge is powered by Cummins. Dodge didn't build it. The Chevy/GM is powered by Duramax. GM didn't build it. By designing and building their own diesel, Ford is stepping into uncharted waters. I wish them the best.

Very impressed with our 6.4 Diesel, especially with the 3.73 gears and the 17 inch rubber on the 350 Dually. Running at 60 MPH the RPMs run in the area of 1800 in over drive and to 2500 when it shifts on a step grade at the same speed. The 7.3 was a great engine as we still have a 97 F250 with 3.55 gears and a 5 speed that gives exceptional fuel mileage.
I would want to wait a year or two to see what the 6.7 will bring before investing money into an first year out engine .

With the government changing the rules constanly, the manufactures have no choice but to change their engines. My 06 Ford 6.0 pulls like a mule, with no problems in 60K miles. Sure hope the new engine works well. GM & Dodge have been taking your tax dollars, hopefully Ford won't fall into the same trap, time will tell.

Ford presently designs and builds smaller diesel engines in Europe for the car market. They are also building a new diesel engine plant in the UK for smaller engines. Small diesels in cars producing high mileage are more accepted in Europe and worldwide than in the US. Unfortunately the US consumers don't want diesels in their cars. There is an aversion to the smell, noise and smoke of the older diesel engines here in the US. As well diesel engines are more expensive to build and the higher engine cost factor is there. The worldwide demand for diesel is the reason it costs more than gasoline especially last year. Now that demand is lower the diesel prices have temporarily come down. I don't expect the diesel price to stay down once our and the world's economies rebound.

maybe Ford will buy a Cummins for thier trucks since Cummins has shut down production at the CEMP plant. Ford was working with Cummins back in the "90s but got caught with trade secrets. Friendship ended. Cummins needs a buyer for thier engines and 650 plus people need a job and everyone seams to love thier Fords for some reason. IMHO

The 6.4 did very well in its first year. The EPA standards keep causing the manufacturer's to upgrade their motors. Our local Ford dealer tells me that the warranty claims for the 6.4 diesel are very low and it is rare to see one in their shop for motor work. The have only replaced 1 defective DPF. My Ford Engineer friends tell me that the Scorpion motor has been under testing for a long time. Ford has no choice, they must change to neet the new standards..The new xmitton will be a 6 speed which will be a big improvement. It looks like Dodge will be out of the big truck business which is a shame. GM of course is up in the air..Ford better make a good diesel as that may be the only choice in the near future..

As I understand it, the new Ford engine was designed by Ford, and they also had Peugeot, and Volkswagen Engineers involved, it is a completely new design of engine, the exhaust exits in the center top of the engine, twin turbo's, and there are several on the road presently for testing in 2008-2009 Ford trucks, I think they will have a winner, Ron

Does anyone know for sure what year model they will release the motor in? I have heard both 2010 & 2011 but nobody seems to know for sure.

I am thinking 2011 over 2010 considering Ford released the 2008 model year in Feb 2007.

It will be the 2011 model year which will be released in 2010. It appears to still be on track. We are paying close attention as that may entice me into a new truck.

Thanks! I figure about 2012~2013 it will be time to replace the 2001. I would like for the new motor to be on the streets for 12~18 months to see if there are going to be any issues. The timing looks to be falling in to place.

Yep, if it comes out as a clean motor for a year to a year and a half then I too would consider moving up from the 7.3L. The 7.3L should be about broken in by then.

I think Ford learned the lesson by rushing out the 6.0 and the bad PR that caused not to mention the high warranty cost. The 6.4 was heavily tested before released and has proven to be a very reliable first year motor. The 212 model year sounds about right for us if we are still rv'ing. This 08 6.4L has been perfect
