Motorhomes On Fire

This is not for the faint of heart, but i think necessary to pass along so we are all careful in our check lists. Also, carry a good fire extinguisher.

Wayne: I don't know -- I don't think a fire extinguisher (or even 2) would have helped in most of those videos. A gas (or diesel) fire, will quickly get ahead of one of these small bottles we could carry. That said, I recommend getting out of the vehicle, getting everyone to safety, do a head-count to ensure that everyone is out of the vehicle, and, if time allows, be sure and bring your wallet / purses with you. Finally, do not go back inside if you forgot your purse or wallet (a human is another matter of course) but all those other things can be replaced.

That gives me a special shudder. Our small electrical fire at the Branson rally could have ended in such a tragedy had we not been in the rig when it occurred. It can happen to anyone at any time.

Well I guess that is another reason not to get a Motor Home. Way way too many sources for a fire.

Well, if you looked at all the videos, there was a trailer park where it was not a motor home that was the problem, but a TT or 5er. At least that is what appeared as to me. Running down the highway with power to the break lights could cause a short that could ignite something. A brake drum overheating from malfunction could cause a fire. Some idiot tosses a cigarette out the window and it lands just right, can cause a fire. There are a number of variables that can cause a fire, MH or Towable

Skypilot,
You are so right. Those small extinguishers are good only if you catch it at the very initial start of something. Safety of people is most paramount and comes before all else. I would never go back in for something material. All material things can be replaced or remembered.

The TV could be the problem. I wonder how many carry a fire extinguisher in a convenient place in the TV???

The posting of the link was not to scare or put blame on any one type of unit, but as an awareness that things can, and do, go wrong sometimes.

The MH is a different breed from a towable trailer
